The Grid project closed down and gave some bogus reason why they wouldn't keep it up. There are other similar ones going, but I never got around to signing up with them. Maybe that ought to be my New Year's resolution.

I recently added one of our CREO rip PCs at work to SETI.
I'm testing it out to make sure it doesn't affect production. If it continues without problems, I've got 3 more to put online!

You won't find anyone more competitive than me when it comes to anything that involves PC's. I'm
that way. Not to worry, you have a couple of weeks before I'll close in on 40k.I've got a week or two burn-in period coming up on 10 new C2D workstations. I usually burn them in with Prime, but this year I may use BOINC and SETI. Someone HAS to overtake Rob :)

lol you too?
I've got 9 Quad XEON servers here I could probably get away with using two CPU's each on. I need to have a chat with David Anderson about adding a couple of new preference features though. I'd like to be able to schedule my PC's to use two CPU's each from 7AM to 6PM and then use all four the rest of the time. The client should be able to deal with that.

I work in a print shop with a ton of Xerox & CREO equipment.
They all use XP Pro PCs to drive the equipment (except the B&W printers which use UNIX). I'm just afraid of taking too much processing time and causing my print jobs to go bad. That can get costly quick.

I bet it would get costly.
I'm the Administrator in a pseudo-government department and have about a hundred PC's that I could leech CPU cycles from. There are no mission critical tasks going on here that would keep me from doing it, but I think having that many PC's to update whenever a new version of BOINC came out would be a PITA. I could use MS SMS to push updates, but... again... PITA.

I fold proteins, myself. http://folding.stanford.edu/
I've been doing it for quite a while...... I don't have the enormous capacity I used to have (2 computer labs and the library computers as well as 30 student computers). I'm still 414 in the world, though. My team is 11th. 24,416 WU for 3,316,495 points. The best part about F@H is that it can utilize PC's, Mac's, Linux, Unix, BeOS, ATI GPU's, Sony PS3s, and soon, Nvidia GPU's. PS3's are monster folders. |
