Sound and Vision did a review of Blu-ray players a little while back and the PS3 finished tops as far as video quality and features.

Thats what I thought and why I bought mine. Plus it does so many other things, like access all the music, videos and photos on our network. I rarely use it for video games, but watching movies, both blu ray and downloaded and listening to music we use it a lot.

^^ My son the gamer has all the gaming platforms & the one he's on most is the Xbox 360. The PS3 does offer "free" on-line gaming & the graphics are a bit better, but the Xbox 360 gaming community is much larger...:)

Yeah my cousin has a 360 next door and I don't really care much for it. I just never played Xbox really. Heck the other night he was playing Gears of War 2 and it looked really boring but I don't know if he was on an easy part or what. The graphics and all the blood was sweet but there really wasn't much coming out to kill him and it didn't look too hard. He was in a giant worm cutting veins from the heart.
But as you see in my tag I replaced the hard drive in my PS3 to a 320GB model so I could store my music and some of my more favorite movies on it. Yes I watch Snatch a few times a month and I like to get to it easy. But the only game I really played online is Resistance Fall of Man and that was it. I don't play it online that much, but ever since Christmas my girlfriend and I have been playing Monopoly. Yeah I need to put another game in, I need to see some BLOOD and DEATH.

My system is always a work in progress, but here is the latest version.
EDIT: I suppose I should stuff some specs in here as well... Basement system: -Native 7.2 system for sources that support it, otherwise the receiver fills in the surround-back speakers. -Mitsubishi WD-60735 60" 1080p DLP -Pioneer VSX-1019-AH-K receiver. (I just replaced my Denon AVR-2307ci because it wouldn't play nice with my new Mitsu. TV over HDMI. I was pissed, Denon says it's Mitsu's fault, Mitsu says it's Denon's fault, but either way I'm stuck with something that doesn't freaking work. The picture is of the old receiver which needed an HDMI switch, this new one does not.) -Xbox 360 with HD-DVD drive -PS3 (Original 20GB model with a 120GB drive installed so I have full hardware backwards compatibility as well as SACD support) -Nintendo Wii -Turntable (I don't remember the model) -DVD/VCR deck -Insignia 2-channel receiver that's sole purpose is to power the two bass-shakers in the couch -DirecTV receiver -Logitech Harmony 890 in RF mode with two "Wireless Extenders" feeding IR blasters on all of the equipment -Z-Wave dimmers so the Harmony can control the lights as well And for the ever-important speakers: -2 Paradigm Monitor 7 front mains -Paradigm CC-190 center channel -The surrounds are all leftovers from my very old HTIB system, but they work very well as surrounds. I'm not willing to dump lots of $$ into them when their whole purpose is to play bullets, wind, etc... -2 bass-shakers that I installed in the couch. I'm in attached housing (Townhouse) so I don't like to turn the sub up very high. -The sub is a cheap one out of the same HTIB as the surrounds. -HTPC: The HTPC is pretty nifty. It's not nearly as advanced as it was when I built it, but it still has some horsepower. It also acts as the houses server, and the two laptops do auto-sync all of the important files/folders. It's specs are: *EVGA Nvidia based 680i SLI motherboard *Intel Q6400 processor *4GB DDR2 RAM *2.7TB of Hard Drive space *(2) EVGA GeForce 8800GTS Super-clocked graphics cards in SLI *Dual Gigabit ethernet connections *Antec 900 case because of it's insane amount of cooling and crazy number of drive bays *****The real reason for the HTPC is to serve as a video and audio jukebox. I have all of my DVD's ripped into it in full ISO rips (no compression, nothing cut out. Just a complete image of the disc). The front end software works with Daemon tools to let you scroll through images of the box-covers, select one and pull up all of the information on the movie, then when you hit play the image is mounted to a virtual DVD drive and plays right then. This is the new TV: (It's showing my HTPC front end software) ![]() This is my equipment rack. There was no wiring in the place when I bought the house, so there was a long, frustrating retro project to get things to where they are now. This is the closet under the stairs. All of the wiring plugs into the wall and then distributes around the basement. You can't see it, but I do also have a 50' HDMI run for the TV so I can do full 1080p which actually is noticeable up in the 60" range. ![]() And here's a crappy cell phone picture of the head end. I upgraded to a Comcast DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem for (real world sustained) speeds of 22Mbit down / 5Mbit up. None of this used to exist either. I ran satellite lines through the walls up to the attic for the installer so he didn't run them up the side of the house, and then sent sat. wires and gigabit ethernet to the rest of the rooms in the house. The router has three high-gain 7dB wifi antennas remotely mounted for better coverage. ![]() Here are a few more pictures of the basement system. Some of them are of older versions of the system so pardon any discrepancies. ![]() ![]() ![]() This is what it looked like part way through the project. ![]() ![]() ![]() I just finished up things on my main floor. Since there is a new TV in the basement the set that used to be down there has been moved into the nook in the living room. It's 19" deep since it was designed for a CRT, so there's a long articulating mount behind the TV holding it up to the back wall. Here's how it used to look. I installed the two sconces and the light above the nook, there used to be nothing there. ![]() The sconces were a design idea that failed miserably, so they have been replaced with in-wall speakers, but I left the overhead lights for the mantel because I think they look very nice especially when they're dimmed down. I did this kind of install work professionally for a while when the live theatre business slowed down and I went through a long dry spell. I only have one picture of those jobs, but this is one of the smaller/simpler head-ends that I did for the company. (This was an early one of mine, so that's why the wire bundle splits instead of coming down in one big trunk. Just inexperience) ![]() Other than that, I have a garage-puter installed and a kitchen-puter installed ![]() ![]() This isn't really media related, but I also just installed these two hanging lights in the kitchen, and am in the process of swapping all of my switches/outlets for decora style rockers. The kinks have worked their way out since I took the picture.

If I could afford it I would switch to an RTI remote setup, but I can't so I'm stuck using my Harmony 890 in RF mode with two "wireless extenders" to control everything. The blasters are just the ones that came with the extenders.
