From what i've read in the Japanese Media over the past few days they say that the death toll might top 20,000 but have so far only confirmed 1,300 dead as yet. Although there are lots of people missing there is still a problem with communications as the mobile and phone networks in this area are still down.

If you want the most upto date news on whats happening might I suggest these sites.

NHK WORLD English
ƒjƒ…[ƒX@‘•@YOMIURI ONLINEi“”„V•j
asahi.com????????????

Use google translate as these are Japanese websites.

I've given up on the UK, Satellite channels as there full of rumours and mis-information, not saying the stuff on the sites above is 100% true but it seems more accurate than whats being reported on UK TV!

I'm donating via Red Cross.org now...and hope that some of you might consider doing the same.

The poor souls in Japan need all of our prayers and some relief donations....

OK, I'll be the grumpy old cynic here: donating is good, but be careful who you make the donations to as not all organizations are equal and not all donated funds go the intended recipients. Do your research first and make your donations second.

Some stunning footage of the incoming tsunami in Japan... look closely at about 16 seconds in - the one car that isn't moving right away looks like a Forester?

Such a terrible tradegy...

This one hit closer to home when I found out that I had some friends that were connecting through Tokyo Narita for New York JFK when the earthquake started. They were already on the plane waiting to push back when the first wave of quakes hit so they ended up staying on the plane instead of evacuating onto the tarmac like the rest of the airport. They said the first hit got really bad and kept going for a long time. Also that the aftershocks kept on coming one after the other.

What happened in Delta Skyclub at Narita Airport during biggest earthquake! - CNN iReport

I wasn't suprised when the experts found out that Japan moved 8ft toward America and changed the rotation of the earth after hearing all the accounts of how big this quake was.

This is a terrible event and it will have some major ripples that will reach here soon... Prayers.

As it relates to the cars we drive...

"w w w.bloomberg.com/news/2011-03-13/tokyo-electric-toshiba-east-japan-rail-may-be-among-most-hurt-by-quake.html"

"On the day of the earthquake, Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd., the maker of Subaru cars, said it closed five factories, while Toyota Boshoku Corp. (3116) reported damage at a plant in Miyagi. Denso Corp. (6902), Japan’s biggest auto-parts maker, said a plant under construction south of Miyagi was damaged. "

unreal to read the geological data that is coming out from this:

*Coastline shift up to 8' towards the US
*Axis shift about 6.5"
*Earth's oblateness (flattening on the top and bulging at the equator) decreased by a small amount--about one part in 10 billion. This continues the trend of earthquakes making Earth less oblate. Less oblate means more round.
* decreased the length of the day by 2.68 microseconds
* left a gigantic rupture in the sea floor, 217-miles long and 50 miles wide
