Default Back Pain

I have what's called hemisacralization. I have an extra vertabra that is fused to the first segment of the sacrum on only one side.

Pain comes and goes if I do any lifting, twisting, etc. Its so bad right now (I sneezed, yes I sneezed) that I'm tilted like 12 degrees to the right and can't put weight on my right foot.

Reg docs give me pain pills and muscle relaxers, doesn't help. The chiro fixes it temporarily. Ice makes it worse, heat doesn't help much. I'm basically walking bent over.

Does anyone have this or know how to get more permanent relief? Right now I can't even do yoga.

I was going to suggest an inversion table but you've mentioned in a previous thread that you don't have enough body weight for that treatment to make an effect. Might be worth another shot, though, maybe using some dumbbells to add weight once inverted. Other than that, try to get a referral to a specialist or go to a sports medicine facility.

TENS unit? That might alleviate some pain but won't do much for the basic condition.

Rocketeyes, back pain takes your spirit away. I've had worse pain in other parts of my body, but nothing that took away my thinking and emotions like back pain.

I finally hit a point where my doc offered my timed released Oxycontin. It has bene a like saver and has enabled me to keep working when I was almost disabled. It has been like a miracle medicine for me. I never feel "stoned", just pain free.

Too bad you're not closer... I know of sports medicine practitioner locally who seems to be able to perform miracles using a combination of massage therapy and acupuncture. She's the physical therapist for the US Olympic wrestling team.

It worked for me.

Good sports medicine clinic. Preferably one that is connected to a teaching University.

My chiro does massage therapy and tens when I'm there. We have a tens unit, but its not as powerful as the one the chiro has. I have an inversion table, seems to make pain worse, but not better definitely.

I'm sure stress and anxiety have some to do with it since I clocked about 70 hours of work last week even while bent in half.

I get the same way. I just bend over to pick something up and thats it. I just sat down and my legs went numb. But I use those heat patches on my back and it seems to help. nothing else works for me. My bulging disk has gotten worse and my only option is surgery but for now i take bathes and use heat. it seems to help me a little bit.

I would exhaust all possible avenues of therapy and rehab before I would choose back surgery.

There is no surgery that would fix what I have.

Chiro said to use just as much ice as heat. The more time I spend on the heating pad, the worse it gets.

From what I've been told the idea in using ice is that applying cold will reduce inflammation, which would help to reduce pain.

Have you tried Naproxen? I's available OTC as Aleve, and at higher strengths by prescription. Unfortunately, it also is hard on the stomach; you must take Naproxen with food.

Naproxen

I have suffered with back pain for many nearly 35 years after lugging a 120 lb pack plus rifle (not a plastic one either) and basic webbing for 6 years as a Grunt and jumping in and out of trucks - APC's - choppers - landrovers etc. - uphill and down dale.

Rocketeyes, you have my sympathy as I understand what you are living with.
