Stock looking grey impreza hatch with slightly larger wheels and big tailpipes. Fairly innocent looking really. I didn't drive I was only a passenger. Under the hood cosworth everything and more besides, big rotated billet tubo - a garret of some sort. Dyno'd the day before on 97 BP at 585 bhp - don't know what torque, reckoned to be 630hp on Shell.

The noise is somehow different to the usual Subaru - for the first half a second you think it doesn't feel that fast then some idiot attaches a winch to the horizon and everything goes into fast forward. The best analogy I can think of is if the acceleration in my car is like a baby elephant jumping on your chest then this car is like it's huge overweight mother lowering herself slowly but with ever increasing determination onto your chest. We only ever got partway through third gear because all these apparently stationary cars kept getting in the way but it's geared so that 3000rpm is 90 in top so I reckon we had a way to go. Despite greasy, slushy freezing roads full power in second could be deployed with no wheelspin.

Reasons I don't want it - the carbon clutch meant every gear change was like a brick on the back of the head, the race car suspension was solid, you'd be banned in a week if you were lucky, your friends would all get a cab and meet you there, lots of parts are 'made to measure' etc etc.

Reasons I want it - it must be about the fastest thing for the money anywhere, you could break the hearts of all those exotic owners, when I got back into my car it suddenly felt all slow and wobbly.

If it could be done in a slightly more civilised way I'd want one very badly. At the moment it's a magnificent piece of engineering that resembles a mode of transport.

This raises and interesting question... what's the most powerful car you have been in/driven?

I did 6 laps of Elvington in Simon George's LP640 when that was pretty much new. Fantastic car but the driving experience was ruined because it was SO NEW, the geezer taking me round wouldnt let me go over ~4k revs. He was screaming at me more than the engine. Mixed emotions that day.

Driven = Gallardo LP 560-4
Driven in = 700bhp Supra
Sat in = 1000bhp Veyron.

Would dearly love to convert 'sat in' to 'driven' one day.

My WRX STi but numerous fast road and race bikes over the years. The WRX still feels slow compared to a bike but I like the added grip and protection the car provides. Weirdly the car feels more illegal than a bike at speed. Why is that?
