Default What forester has Low Ratio gearbox

UK cars only.

I am looking to buy a forester, 2001-2006, manual only.

Can you tell me what models (turbo - non turbo, 2 & 2.5) have the low ratio gearbox?

Cheers

Don't listen to him. They're fast enough for normal people.

Come on guys, 'tis the season of goodwill to all men. Leave those less fortunate alone.

I'm DESPERATE to find a dual-range box. (low ratio, is that what you guys call it?). Only on non-turbocharged cars, but a lot of people in Australia swap them into turbocharged cars and go with even lower gear sets to make them crawlers. Working my hardest to obtain one.

I heard the low range box is for getting the car up car park ramps or for pulling away if you have all five seats filled.

Don't forget going over speed bumps

In all seriousness though, I've driven an normally aspirated one and whilst it won't take your breath away in the performance stakes, it does cruise along quite nicely. (downhill with the wind behind it - or being towed by a turbo )

Yesterday afternoon, fully loaded with 3 passengers, 3 dogs, luggage, shopping etc we found the limits of the NA outback going up Porlock hill.
I said to mrs "ready for some full throttle?" Yes she replied, there was a pause and she said "go on then" I stamped several times on the throttle but it never happened...
20 mph in 2nd is all it could pull, if I had done this in the foz she would have been screaming at me to slow down!
