Default Tweeking my XTen - questions

After protracted deliberations this summer I have decided to keep running my XTen, which I have now had for 5 years and has given me 50k of pretty trouble free mileage.

Its going to extreme scoobies in Essex next month with the hope that it is in good enough nick to cope with some further modifications. I'm thinking bigger turbo and injectors. If this happens I will put some feedback on the results on here.

At the moment its just a 2.5XTen with a PPP, but with the standard back box exhaust (the previous owner found the prodrive one too loud).

I've been on the look out for a second hand prodrive exhaust box and have found one that has come off an 04 impreza STI. Could anyone tell me whether this would fit my 05 forester? I cannot see why not.

Also is the STI top mounted intercooler different (bigger and better)to the one fitted to the standard XTen? Edit - Think I found the answer on an earlier thread here probably no benefit at the power levels I'm after.

Many thanks!

Thank you for that. So the back box is Forester specific. Looks like I will have to buy one new then.

I want to make the exhaust as free flowing as possible and still pass an MOT. I think the PPP involved a decat up pipe perhaps, (not sure). I found a thread which suggested a straight through center pipe too.

Have you switched to a straight through center section too?

Some impreza backbox's will fit, I've got a 'racebox' on mine, it is not as long as the Forester specific, but it fits OK, and doesn't burn the bumper.

If it were me I'd fit a 22mm rear Arb and heavy duty mounts and Ferodo DS2500 brake pads.

It will transform how your car drives. You don't need new springs or dampers but the bar is essential. I wish I'd done it on my XT long ago.

Do the power mods once you can steer and stop properly.

I'm planning on fitting one of them tomorrow. I'm worried snapping the mounts though, I think I've had the bar for at least 6 months sat there waiting to be fitted.

I'm pretty sure but not 100% that h&s make exhausts for racebox

I think I've heard that before, they look very similar in the way they are made.

You won't need injectors. Or put it this way - you'll need a decent (STI) intercooler way before you need injectors. The stock intercooler is marginal at best - even on a stock motor.

I agree with the general principle that money is better spent on the suspension and steering before you need more power.

I still reckon the Arb gives you a major leap in overall improvement for pennies.
