Default Turbo Shafted!

If you think that was stupid, try this for size...
Up bright and early, with the intention of fitting Forestier's old TD04 and, after much debate , my recently purchased H&S cat.
I stripped of the old coolant pipes and old oil gasket, and had a thought! Ding! Is the nut on the shaft tight enough? Some of you will guess the rest... tried to tighten it gently, and it came off, reverse thread... tightened it up again, and the shaft felt wobbly, with a bit of play it didn't have before... Tightened it a bit more, and Snap, the shafts busted! great start to the day! Anyonegot a spare shaft and nut sitting around? And a guide to dismantling TD04s, using words of one syllable or less?(preferably in colour)
Cheers, Nick
The irony is, I bought a 0-20 Nm torque wrench on E-bay yesterday...

Unlucky matey - did exactly the same thing to a nut yesterday while refitting one of the boot anchor points - over-screwed the head clean off !

If you dismantle it, when reassembled it will have to be balanced, for which you have to pay more than a used TD04 is worth, in other words your Td04 is now scrap!

You may find some buyers for the bits...eg someone who wants a housing machined to take a larger wheel etc....in fact I was thinking of trying a TD04/TF035 hybrid using a TD04 comp wheel and housing.....

Should you wish to play about with it, the following is what I used for reference when I refurbed mine.

Stage Infinity » Mitsubishi TD04-13T Turbo Rebuild

Which only works if using the same wheels so it doesn't need balancing, as he's bust the turbine wheel shaft, he can't...

Nick, how tight was your nut, can't undo the one on my old TF035 - despite much heaving this morning, soaking in WD40 as we speak!

You probably know that it's reverse thread?
Once I'd finished mangling it, it was so loose, it just came off in my hand, officer.
It can't be that tighht, it's onl y 8 or 10 mm

Yes, I was doing it in reverse as I should, a day of WD40 and it almost came off with fingers alone, I think it was the baked in carbon (now all over my hands) that was to blame!

Good news is the bearings are solid as a rock, and the TD04 compressor wheel is a straight fit on the shaft, however I will have to dismantle my CHRA to get it machined as the wheel sits in a recess in the front face which is only big enough for the current 50mm wheel!
