Model identification help!!!!

Hi... I´m new...I just got my Granpas Forester... A 1999.... He died like 2 years ago so I give some money to grandma.... and I'm the new owner.... hahahaha

I´m from Costa Rica... (Central America)... so my english is bad....

This car is a 1999 Forester CGGL 2000 c.c non turbo, the interior is single (fabric) but has a moonroof, its now AWD, but it have a lever that activate the 4 wheel drive...
the Chasis or vin number is a jf1sf5lj4wg...169

Can you help me about the model.... I ear about "L" model or "s" model and many more... and I wanna know why i got....

The lever doesn't activate 4 wheel drive, it activate low range. The Forester is 4 wheel drive all the time - no buttons involved

Basically that tells you it was made in Japan, the model is an SF as opposed to a later SG model. You have a 2.0L engine and it's actually a MY98 car, although it might have been registered in 1999
Can you help me about the model.... I ear about "L" model or "s" model and many more... and I wanna know why i got....

It isn't an S-Turbo. I can't tell you what trim level as I've no idea if your car is US market (I suspect it would be) or some other market. You may have more luck looking on the main forum where it's more American-ised (Click here)
Does the car have heated seats or front fog lights?

Curious, as it's a Central American car, I would think that it doesn't just run on gasoline fuel?

The car was bougth new at the Subaru dealer by my grandpa... The dealer in Costa Rica works with japan... The car has fog ligths but dont have heates, its gasoline, and the lever says 2wd 4wd...

If it's indeed a 2.0 liter model, it's not North American. Only 2.5 engines here. Also, no low range option.

Its a japanese versión for costa rican market (think so) And had the 2wd -4wd selection lever

2wd/4wd selector would be unique for a foz (or any Scoob) in my experience, lever sounds like high/low range to me!

Okay,
Here the breakdown for the JDM VIN codes on Forester
jf1sf5lj4wg...169
JF1 is Passenger Car FHI made (FHI Fuji Heavy Industries)
S is Forester
F is Wagon
5 is 2.0 litre AWD
L is LHD (Left Hand Drive)
J is SOHC MPI Full-Time AWD 5-speed MT
4 is Full Time AWD 5-speed MT Dual Range
W is model year code
G is FHI Gunma Plant
Last 5 Numerical Digits are Serial Number

So. GrandPa's car is a dual range 5-Speed Manual Transmission with full time AWD.
Hope that that is now settled?

A standard LHD 2.0l SF5 N/A, produced for the "Rest of the World" (general) with a Model Year of 1998 (10th VIN Character being a W) with standard HIGH/LOW gear ranges.
