Angry Insurance rip off

Have changed my address recently,so called up my insurer(Privilege) to inform them about it,they charged me £44 for it!!!This is just a joke!
Once on the phone,I asked them how much would be a charge for a new set of alloys : extra £160 on my policy and the excess goes up to £700!

I know it's not specialist insurer but...
Well ,looks like moving to Keith Micheals or similar.

A-Plan highly recommended by others (personally I thought that they were useless after a couple of quotes).

Went with Adrian Flux - and could highly recommend.

I'm with Keith Michaels, they're very good. Polite and helpful, definitely recommend them!

My renewal is due in april, will follow your recomendations guys.
It's just really puts me off the mods I have planned to do,because every single mod is a steep hike in insurance premium.
Does Keith Micheals also charge extra for aftermarket wheels, brakes etc?

£44 just for a change of address, what did they call it? an Administration charge? A bloody rip off more like!

Dont know if adrian flux is like they used to be years ago but I had my insurance with them when I was younger and they sucked, bit time.

keith michaels couldnt get near to a-plan so i stayed with them

re: change of address - I assume you have moved from one post code ranked as a certain risk category to another which is deemed a higher risk category ? If so, then most insurers would charge for this. There used to be a site where you can look up your post code and the insurance risk rating attached.

re: alloys - that does sound way OTT. So the insurer is basically telling you to go elsewhere as they do not want to have modded cars on their book, or not inform them and still get the alloys, in which case your alloys would not be covered if someone steals them.

I've just renewed with A-Plan for the third year, no-one else could get near their quote and, they've just become a sponsor of the local Subaru club that I'm a a member of so I now get a discount as well

A Plan are very probably the cheapest on STI insurance but they could not compete with Esure for my 2.5XT

Yet your new alloys probably cost less to replace than genuine Subaru items!
Rip off merchants! Give A-plan a bell. I've just moved the missus' car to them after Tett Hamilton put up her premium by £25 despite another years NCB. £265 at Tett. £170 at A plan, with a lower excess!
Strangely though, Tett lowered my Ins in November by over £100 on the previous year.
Think of a number and double it!

It's really quite simple, Privilege - along with the vast majority of the 'direct insurers' - prefer not to insure modded cars.... but will happily take the money from anyone bonkers enough to pay their exorbitant additional premiums.

As others have said, stick to the specialists such as A-Plan...
