Default ..how long did your first clutch last for..?

hi all.

quicky for a monday morning..

I've been told that my clutch is on the way out as its begun to slip under pressure. Im just wondering therefore, at 82k, will it be my first replacement (having had the car only 9 months and nothing in documentation as I recall)..?

How long did your first clutch last for. on yours..?

And replacements. Expensive things? Standard just as good as any or should I get an WRX Impreza type?

many thanks.

Steven

About 80k for the (rather on the small size) Subaru clutch is par for the course.

Exceedy stage1, similar weight to standard, cope with 300ish BHP easily, your looking at circa £300-400 fitted, mine cost me £280 (with some shopping around and haggling like delboy) fitted about 5 years ago.

..many thanks for that Rookie, I'll do your test, wait a little while longer until it gets more noticeable (by spring/4000 miles?), before sourcing and getting the the one suggested.

I know what the missus is going to say though.. '..it was OK before you started messing about with it..'

Best get xmas out the way first..

120k on my Foz when I sold it. 90k on the Impreza when I replaced it earlier this year. It all depends on how it's been driven (e.g. has it been used for towing) and how much power it has to handle (or more to the point, how the power is requested).

82k is not unheard of.

I have had multiple, multiple vehicles with clutch. If you use the clutch properll it should go wy over 100K miles. I have never replaced a clutch in my 50+ years of driving.

If you do a lot of city driving, tow regularly or run a lot of power, launch heavily often, or otherwise abuse the clutch (e.g. track days), it'll shorten the life of the clutch.

It's not necessarily got anything to do with not using the clutch properly, just using it hard - it's a wear and tear part at the end of the day and the harder you use it, the shorter it'll last

Mine went very early, which worried me a touch about the previous owner's driving style!

Yea I know there are extenuating circutances. But most people have clutches that don't last bc of improper use. Thats just what I have noted through the years.
