I was told by KP that I needed two front wheel bearings, caliper and pads which was proved to be wrong by another dealer. A few days after the KP diagnosis the clutch fingers on the pressure plate broke off. Clutch replaced by a real Subaru dealer (carstins) under warranty with no hassle. KP do not have a clue so they make it up to keep their cashflow going and not your car!
I had my Forester booked in with Keith Price Subaru, Abergavenny for next week but having read what Pindie had to say about them I've decided to cancel the booking.

However, this does now leave me with a real problem because I need to get my A/C fixed before the cold weather arrives.

My Forester has just wasted 10 days at Greens Motors Subaru, Haverfordwest with the A/C problem but they failed to diagnose nevermind correct it but in fairness to them they didn't charge me anything.

I also contacted Nathaniel's at Bridgend before booking in with Keith Price but they declined to accept my car as they didn't feel they had sufficient Subaru experience to deal with the problem. So this now leaves me with nowhere to turn as there isn't another Subaru dealership within South Wales. So if anybody has any suggestions of where I can take my motor, I'd really appreciate it because I'm desperate to get this problem sorted in case it causes further damage.

Have you heard of anyone charging 15 to remove a wheel from a car?!
I had an alloy from my Panda straightened at alloyweldcraft and they charged 30 extra (15 to remove and 15 to refit it) just because the wheel was on the car.
And before you say that's to remove the tyre and refit it, no, there was an extra charge of 15 for that.
Yes, the price list was on the wall but I had not noticed, they told me 90 + VAT on the phone (they assumed the wheel would be off the car)
150 to straighten a wheel (75 for the 1st dent, 15 to remove/refit the tyre, 30 to remove/refit the wheel from the car + VAT), I told them they are taking the piss!
If I didn't need the car on Monday I wouldn't touch them with a bar pole, should have just fitted the spare!
On the plus side they didn't charge for inflating the tyre!
fkers.

Wheel 'specialist' in UK are generally bad in all aspects! When I have a puncture in my tyre, they charged me 30 to replace the tyre, when on the price list it stated 4xtyres replace = 20!!! On my question why they charge 30 for one, they told me "because it was unusual labor"!!!????

My vote would go for HDC Subaru in Hebden Bridge, not only does Howard really know his stuff, but they're really fair on what they charge. And they make a good brew :)

Autotecnica at Buxton:

Excellent service and great value. Had my 04 XT serviced and cam belt changed by Adam last year and it has run beautifully since. He gave the car a thorough check over at the same time and sorted a couple of other minor issues. All old parts were shown to me and I was totally happy with the work and the price.

At the time I asked him if there were any faults to look out for and he said that the drivers electric window motor was a weak point. True to his prediction, it died this morning leaving me with a cold wet drive to Buxton to get it fixed. Sorted within the day at about a third of the price of a motor from the Subaru dealer.

Hard to find a mechanic that you can trust these days but I have no hesitation in recommending Autotecnica. Top quality work and always tries to keep the cost reasonable.

I have no hesitation in recommending Three Arches Garage in Cardiff. The two main mechanics were both time served Subaru Techs at CVC before it went under. They have done loads of work on many of the South Wales Scooby's member including full forged rebuilds. Pete is the owner and a real gent. If Cannon Fodder is posting on here he will back me up.

If you ain't Cav......................you ain't!

Cool New Perthshire Dealer - check 'em out!

Popped in yesterday pm as I was passing on way to Perth.

Really surprised with the experience. - In the best way possible.

Incredibly friendly Director and mechanic.

Got my battery tested with no prior appt and no cost, took a few minutes. Director v friendly, made me coffee, could tell they are Subaru enthusiasts. Some nice tuned Imprezas there too.

They are a dedicated small branch, but with lots of experience. Used to be a Skoda dealership upto until about 6-7 months ago, the Dundee AutoEcosse business has relocated a few miles inland to also serve more of rural Perthshire.

Came away seriously impressed and happy.

Its not my closest dealership to my home, but I'm often down in Perthshire, so it may actually be more convenient to use them, as they also do servicing on a Sat am, I'm assuming they do courtesy cars for service, etc.

Here's their details, they are abut 3 miles South West of Coupar Angus o the Perth road, suggest you look them up & stop by and say hello.

Autoecosse Subaru

Cheers

Another recommendation for Three Arches in Cardiff from me. Took my XT in for a once-over and clutch and the entire crew were friendly and helpful.

Hi
I am new to forum. On subaru number 9 now! Looking for number 10.

Just to add to the list i picked up an aircon compressor from Autotecnica in Buxton (Behind Karting Track). Very helpful, nice lads and trained subaru tech. I installed compressor last night and had it gassed this morning. Now blowing cool again. They are connected to grade A subaru on ebay.

In sheffield 555 subaru are good and Arnold H Baker just off carlisle street has done work for me over the last 25 years, very trustworthy good proper mechanic and saves and shows any replaced parts.

Europa Subaru parts centre are friendly, ask for Bob, always keen to help. Only downside is Subaru dealer parts prices!! Sometimes you need to sit down when given the price.

Hope this is of help

Si
