No argument from me. I had a 97 VTEC Accord for around three years and it was the most trouble free car I've ever owned so, based on their philosophy, it doesn't surprise me that they took the top spot.

Nice one Foz!

...but these in the top 50 most reliable cars of the decade...

23 Rover 45
26 Citroen Xsara
41 Rover 25
46 MG TF <--- not sure I know any of these that don't have something wrong with the electrics - then there's the K series head gasket issues to contend with!!!

then

69 Subaru Legacy
100 Porsche Boxster

...Really??? Early Boxsters had a few issues sure, but all the ones I've dealt with/known have been bullet proof and what goes wrong on Legacy's to put them in 69th?

Shame the WRX STi is so low down the list!

I got rid of the second most reliable car for the 28th!

The data was taken from a warranty company, not a JD power survey by real world users..
I can't believe the Leggy comes in so low, I just can't think what would go so wrong with so many of them to warrant the placing
The impreza too was way down there, mine was really reliable, more so than my forester
I read the reviews on auto trader to get an idea of common faults before I buy..

Good point Andy, on a warranty basis, this is a reasonable guide to reliability but the JD Power survey provides a better reference, for me anyway, in that it deals mainly with personal satisfaction. Hence the Subarus did pretty well because while some folks are may be indifferent, I think most people who one one, Imp, Leggy or Forester, develop a bond/relationship with the car. I have owned Toyotas, Mitsubishi and a Honda and all were great cars but I felt no passion for them nor, apart from the reliability of the Accord, would I go out of my way to promote them either. My 89 TDi Isuzu Trooper was even more trouble free than the Honda but the Renault 25 put me off that marque forever. I had an old Mazda 323 RWD which was also very reliable but lacking any character whatsoever to the point where I got in to it one day and was changing into second gear when I realised it wasn't my car, that's how all the same they were.

On a satisfaction survey though, Hondas will come high as well because the larger demographic buy them for that very reason. If we all bought cars based on reliability, there would be no Italian or French cars but the part of this survey Gigsy points out that suggests the positive positioning of the Rover 45, Citroen Xsara, Rover 25 and MG TF for reliability/low warranty claims would make me feel either Leyland are are lying or this survey is some sort of manufacturer based marketing scheme, or a load of BS, except for the winner of course.

MG-TF !!...garbage...the placing of this car alone proves the top 100 survey has to be treated with some scepticism !!

Aren't these the top 100 most reliable cars (as determined by WD). The sample is 55,000 cars, so being anywhere in the top 100 is good.

Bottom of their reliability ranking is the BMW 7 series. ouch

Based on the fact that many of the Subaru range share the same platform and there is a commonality with all the oily bits, you would think that all the Scoobies in the top 100 would be on a par!! (Forester 2nd while legacy 69th as an example)....shows you it will be the niggely little things that may well be very incidental that pegs some of the cars back down the list!
