Well toying with the idea but having had a SF5 I would like to get owners thoughts on the XT.
Looking at either a late 2.0 or an early 2.5, will not be modding it as I am using it as a daily driver, maybe a cheeky remap and back box I know all about the SLS etc but are there really many differences between the 2.0 & 2.5? fuel economy etc.. Cheers

More power and torque as standard on the 2.5s obviously - fuel economy is realistically not going to be economical on either, though slightly better on the 2.0 probably.
If it were me, I'd go for the cheaper 2.0 but get at the toys (leather, sat nav) and spend the saving on English Ben's KYB struts and springs, STi rear ARB, subframe locking bolts and a remap. Job jobbed, as they say. A remap on the stock turbo on mine (2.0) was probably the best it ran - nice early power delivery and in reality, probably enough power for the road. After I swapped the suspension on mine (KYBs + Springcoil springs) and fitted the ARB / lock bolts, the handling was great and I could still go off-piste if desired.

If going for a 2.0L make sure it's a MY04 onwards as you have the benefit of AVCS and a decent exhaust manifold...................

Tow bar on the XTE would put me off a little. Very nice though.

Actually, this has reminded me of a chap I spoke to when looking at XTs.
I'll dig out his details and send it to you tomorrow. He's a really interesting guy, from Guildford originally. He used to work for a private bank buying cars as investments, then went on to buy the cars for the P1 club (Damon Hill's supercar sharing club). Anyway, he has his own business and gets good cars in at good prices. One Foz he had when I was looking got sold for his asking price to a dealer, who still made a turn on it. Where he buys cheap he makes a margin to keep cars moving, rather than hold out for the market price. He's got a thing for Subaru, particularly Foresters. |
