Im looking at getting some 18"x8.5" rims for my '10 FXT but i dont really want to go down in tire size as far as tread height goes, and im also interested in getting some swift springs.
Would it be crazy to try to fit a 255/55-18 tire on a 18x8.5" et44 rim with the swifts springs?? Would the extra tire height/width cause any rubbing or other issues with the car lowered an inch? |

I have run quite a few tires sizes in the time I've had my Forester, the largest diameter was when I was running 225/60/17's (27.6") and I honestly don't think you'll be able to fit 255/55/18's due to the overall diameter of 29". Check out the pic of the 225/60/17's and the amount of clearance I had at this size... it's not necessarily the height at the top of the wheel well but the front in back that you'd have to worry about. Also the front wheel at full lock was darn close to rubbing.
![]() After that I ran 245/45/18's (26.7) with 18x8.5's as seen below: ![]() as well as 235/50/18's (27.3) on the same wheels: ![]() ^This size had a beefier sidewall but the downfall is that it limits your tire selection. All of these pics are WITH Swift Springs.

Thanks for the reply s guys... Ill probably just run a 255/45-18... I don't want to push it too far with a 255/55 and risk a bunch of rubbing.
