Stock tire blowed... now with MXV4

Hit a curve this afternoon and then the right rear stock Yokohama Geolander blowed. I got it towed to Sears and get a new set of Michelin MXV4. I was planning to replace the Geolander at the end of summer, but now it blowed. I have to replace the tire earlier then a expected. Cost me $1000 with an oil change (just find out it due in Sears). Nice tire though, got the road hazard plan and 60,000 mi warranty.

Catching his breath more likely I really like my MXV4's there good tires, but Sears way overcharged you for them I think i paid 640+ 70 to have them mounted and balanced.

$1000 for tires????? WOW. I'd shop around a little next time, and use the spare for a couple days if you have to.

Also, how did the tire blow? Was it not patchable?

Well, I don't have time to shop around, First, it was Saturday, so lot of shop didn't open. Second, A need to get my thesis done soon, it has been a busy semester... There is a crack on the side wall of the tire, that's un-patchable. I was turning right and I hit the curve to hard. Also, the tire is kind of old, it is the stock one when I get it brand new, the tire is getting old (my car is 63,000mi and I have change winter tire in the winter).

$1000 included the Road Hazard plan, and an oil change. I had MXV4 on my old car, it was great. That's why I choose it again. Though I would prefer the Sport A/S, but they don't have it in stock. Also, MXV4 is the most common tire they are in stock in Sears. If they happen again, I'm pretty sure they have the tire for me.

The price may have been a little high, but that's water under the bridge at this point. Sometimes the situation dictates pricing.
It is hard to be a Michelin tire. I run them on about anything I can afford to put them on including my company truck (2008 Escape AWD). I just replaced the factory Michelin Cross Terrains on it (75K miles) with a new set for $1050 at Discount Tire here in Georgia. 245 65R17.

Ouch... Having been in a similar situation (tire emergency while out of town on a roadtrip, and on a Saturday), I can sympathize... we were forced to go with a set of Kumho Ecsta ASX to replace our Michelin Pilot Sports A/S tires at that time, due to lack of choices.

Better check what that road hazard plan covers, though... I find that those kinds of plans are pretty useless on Subarus because most of the time you can't just replace one tire.

I know I'm being Captain Hindsight here, but that's what the spare tire is for. You use it temporarily for a few days while you can find a way to replace tires (and avoid having to pay/waiting for a tow). That's all I was getting at.

^ was going to say the same thing. Why get a tow, just for a flat tyre?
