I've been looking for a good independent Subaru shop in Chicago for some big maintenance items. Searching these forums and NAOSIC the same shops keep coming up (PnL, Six Star, AMS, etc.); but they're an hour or more outside of the city by car and incredibly inconvenient if you're trying to find a place you can drop off before work and pick up after.
Are there any good independent shops within the city limits? I swore the last time I looked there was at least one just off of I-90 before O'Hare (not Mid-City Subaru) but I cannot find the threads that referenced it.
I know it's not convenient, but Dealerships and Independent shops located in the City usually aren't as good as the Suburban ones. They don't have to be good or honest, they'll always have customers lining up.
So far all the work I've had done there has been done correctly, and the prices are often literally 50% those of suburban independent shops. I'll go there until they screw something up...
@Chitownpete I'm pretty sure they do everything. There is a photo on their Yelp page of them doing a core replacement. I have a lot of faith in that place, but not so much that I'd have them do a core replacement. Their shop is an absolute mess.
Roman Auto Body and Repair. 4339 W. Diversey between Cicero and Pulaski.773-395-7906 I just stumbled upon them while driving my 2002 Forester and noticing several soup-ed up Subarus in their storage lot on my occasional drive to the nearby Walmart. Excellent reviews on google reviews and Yelp.
I've had absolutely terrible luck finding a good mechanic in Chicago. 6star is my go-to but is backed up 6-8 weeks right now for maintenance. My backup closed down during COVID.
Anyone have suggestions for places that hopefully don't have such a long wait?
