Default Question about Rear Strut Brace Install

I tried to install a Whiteline Quick Release Rear Strut Tower Brace this morning but the top plates (the part you bolt inside the strut tower) was about 3/8" to big to drop in.

Anybody else have this problem? Should I just carve a little off the strut tower or send it back and hope a new one fits better?

TIA.

yes, look at pics in post #10. you will cut out roughly a square inch out of the plastic cover. i hope that is what you are referring to.

http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulle...ight=whiteline

EDIT:

reread your post and realize you are talking about the bracket of the strut bar. which bar did you order? forester or impreza specific? the impreza sedan specific whiteline bar has a larger bracket than the wagon specific piece. the bracket to the impreza wagon bar and forester bar is the same. can you take pics to what is the issue? i had no problem installing a impreza wagon bar in my car besides cutting out the square inch on the plastic strut cover.

Tre,

Thanks for your reply. My receipt shows that I ordered the WRX wagon strut bar. The part I find too big is the circular bracket that fits inside the strut tower. Even without the protruding part the circle will not fit in the strut tower.

I wonder if I was shipped the WRX sedan by accident?

Whiteline part number for the wagon piece is KSB586Q. 586 should be stamped on the bar. Are you sure the bracket does not fit? The bracket is slightly bigger than the opening after your take off the plastic strut covers but you can still slip it in with ease. I'm curious as to what the brackets look like on yours. I'll take a pic of mine tonight after I get home from work for you.

A little tuckered out from claybarring Mr. Car, today but will try to get a pic, tomorrow.

Once again, thanks for your help.

Edit:
OK, went and checked the brace. I didn't see any number stamped on it but the box is labeled KSB586Q.

I have Impreza struts on mine so the end brackets are the same where they bolt up to the body.

What I'm wondering is why do you keep refering to putting the ends inside the strut tower? The bar ends sit on top of the strut tower.

I'm referring to the round part that you have to pop the top off the end towers to bolt on. The round part with the 3 holes.

I just checked mine and I have a KSB590Q, it is stamped 590. I believe it is the one made for the Forester.

So am I. Take a look at the installed pics in the thread. Actually, all that's needed is to take the nuts off and place the bar ends on and renut. I left the metal covers off to make it easier for the occasional strut rod tightening.

Maybe you do have the wrong bar but the round parts are all the same at least as far as the bolt spacing goes. If anything, I'd be more apt to grind the bar end down before I started to grind on the strut tower.

Why did you guys using the Impreza WGN part rather than the Forester KSB590Q part, do so? Is it because it's available rather than having to order the Forester part?

When installing this brace, do you need to get the alignment done afterwards?

SuperRu, where did you buy yours and why the sound deadner over the top?

Because both pieces are identical. Just different part numbers. I've seen it both in person so I opt for the one with the lower price.

I bought mine from SubieGal when she was at her old dealership. While I have the car apart, I dynamat anything metal that is tinny just out of habit.

So just to be certain, the 02+ Impreza WRX WAGON rear sturt bar will fit my 06 XT? What front bars with fit my 06?

Thanks.
