2004 STi Steering Rack Part Number & Price?

I've been looking around at '04 STi rack prices & asked a couple vendors/members from the forum. It seems about $590 - $600 for a rack, I'm not sure how much extra for shipping from these sources.

I was on allsubaru.com & they have an STi rack (P/N 34110FE600) for $541 & it runs about $64 for shipping.

Is this the right part number?

Anyone have experience with allsubaru.com?

Any idea why they are that much cheaper?

Looking to do this mod & want to get the best deal possible but don't want to deal with an unreliable source.

I have an 34110FE431 (04 STI) rack in my Forester.

Isn't the 34110FE600 for a 2005 STI.

You are correct, the '04 P/N 34110FE431 is also $541.33 from http://allsubaru.com/

I thought about getting used or even independently rebuilt. However, I've delt with headaches going this route in the past. I don't want to have to pull it out any time soon after installing it.

Anyone deal with allsubaru.com before?

I bought a new one for just that reason and I had some Subaru bucks.

Have you called any of our SF.org supporting vendors. I'm sure they would love to give you a quote. I'd suggest staring with the ones closets to you. There are two not that far away from you that I'd recommend.

Will any year work or just the 04's. As for buying used if its low mileage then I would think its not an issue.

The research I've done on this forum seems to indicate only the '04 is a direct swap. In '05 there were some changes made to the axels, hubs, steering rack, etc.

Even w/low miles a used rack most likely comes from a salvaged car. I'd rather pay a bit more & know what I'm getting, only want to do this once. Just looking for the best price on the OEM part...

aside from that steering rack, is anything else necessary like tie rod ends, seals, gaskets...etc?

From what I've read here, no. However, if someone else is aware please do chime in.
