Living in the harse conditions of high altitudes, and lots of dust, winding roads, and massive stop and goes... I wanted to know what to expect. What kind of fuel consumption are you people getting, and how many miles on the vehicle without new motor rebuilds and trans rebuilds>? In other words how reliable is this Forester? ANY AND ALL SUBMIT YOUR THOUGHTS! THANKS.
We have a 2011 XT and we have been in the 24 to 26 mpg range on average.
58000 miles no problems, Magna flow cat back exhaust is the only thing done for now.
2010 XT, Im in the high teens with lots of city driving 18.5 to 21ish. I ski and usually get somewhere around 21-233ish overall round trip. I do have a heavy foot and like putting my turbo through its paces. Have seen close to 25 with little traffic & smooth sailing.
Yea I am right around 24-26 This sucks because my Chrysler 200 was a large V6 with nearly 300 hp's and kicked Arse! And got the same mileage, and the new 2015 my friend has smokes the old one mileage wise with the 9 speed, he gets over 30+ on the highway. Speed verses utility I guess... I wanted this vehicle and I am still happy though. It does what I want it to and holds it;s value, The "200" drops off the face of the earth resale wise...
I am fully broken in I am now averaging 30 mpg's almost dead even, city highway combined and 84% city driving, so damn that is good! I drive city ONLY M-F and Saturday 50% each highway and City. I try to excellerate under 2k rpm (SLOW I know) use the cruise as often as possible and have actually hit 44+ MPG's 3 times on the computer in a 20 mile stretch. WAHOO that kicks Arse!
I took the gallons used, divided by the miles actually driven and I am at 30 MPG's 2 full tanks to verify it, wow Subaru, nice touch!
First Forester, just bought used, 80K miles. Two tanks burned with average 25 mpg (real). Very happy with that, as driving varies from gentle-to-medium-to-steep hills in a 10 mile radius of home, but few stop signs/lights, 25 to 50 mph. All pavement and no dust. Am using "sport" mode mostly, seems to do better and with less hunting, but am getting the occasional mild burning rubber smell that has been mentioned in many forums, and I find no diagnosis that fits. Any of you mountain folks get the same?
My FXT is only 3 days old so as of right now I'm sitting at 18.6 mpg and just hit 100 miles on the odometer. Time to vary my revving a tad. Gotta break this in right!
'01 with 125k miles is getting roughly 27-29mpg. The most I've gotten on a tank of gas was an average of 29.5mpg, and the worst was 25mpg. I just got back from a long road trip (ABQ to SLC and back) and got an average of 26mpg, which included a fair bit of driving mountain passes in CO.
15 FXT, averaging 23mpg over the first 6000 miles, most driving done between 4800ft-9000ft. Two extended trips about, 900 miles each. Saw 27mpg over the course of 300 miles @70mph, dropped to 25mpg when the speed limit was 80mph. Really enjoying the cvt with the turbo, doesn't have to rev very high to maintain set speed on steep passes.
I've got an '04 Forester XT with 40k on a new forged motor, Cobb exhaust, vf39, etc. Pro tune. I get 28-31mpg at 8600 feet and driving to Denver 75-80mph. I'm happy.
2017 Forester with 2600 miles on it. Last 3 tanks have been right at 34mpg. Lifetime is up to 31.7 and rising (the first 2 tanks were about 25 mpg). I live at 7200' east of Albuquerque (~5500') and drive 25 miles downhill mornings and 25 miles uphill afternoons--seems to be a good drive for good mileage.
2017 Forester Limited with just over 3,000 miles. On the highway, I'm getting 33-34mpg from the first tank on. It's now being driven in town mainly and getting 30mpg and not sure of what it gets on the highway anymore.
