My sealy vacuum bleeder works really well, but it does need an air compressor.

I got a 10 quid bleeder kit from Halfords. Its easy peesy. Just pop it on, crack the nipple and press the peddle to new juice comes through. The one way valve (ball bearing in a rubber pipe) does the hard part. You then check levels etc and move to next nipple in te right sequence.

My XT brakes felt way better after the bleed.

Have been fitting speedbleeders to most of my recent cars.
Went with stainless for the WRX STi
Total one man job.

What model / size of Speedbleeders did you get for the Brembos?

Cheers,
Patrick

Yep. Stainless bleeders would be nice on the STI. Which ones from where Don?

Link posted above but............

Short version
SB1010S-SS Speed Bleeder

Longer version
SB1010-SS Speed Bleeder

Prices are each for stainless.

This is the longer version in the rear Alcons (same thread size as Brembos)

I used the shorter ones in the fronts.

Thank you! I think I just may make an order. ;)

edit: whoopsie expensive! $15 each, 2 longer ones for each rear caliper and 2 shorter ones for each front: $120!

Then 2 bleeder bags, $6, then shipping and then vat on top of that... Half price to go with the non-stainless...

Difficult choices in life. ;)

The only reason for the different lengths used is that I purchased the bleed nipples for the front brakes thinking that the shorts would be OK.
They are, but leave very little clearance between hex and brake casting.

When I fitted the new rear brakes decided on the longer ones which are maybe a bit too long ??

Before buying, maybe worth removing an existing bleed nipple and measuring.

I would also recommend the cheap halfords one-way valve kits, worked a treat, very clean, took me about 5mins to bleed the front end on my own.

I've used one of the kits with a pressurised bottle on my old Clio (pressurised by connecting it to your tyre valve). It was neat but no where near as clean or fast, quite a bit more expensive I think as well. I also ended up having one of the pistons pop out as I forgot to remove the pressure before removing the caliper (D'OH).

These also don't tend to fit on the Subaru reservoir... well, at least they don't fit on the Impreza one so I assume the same is true of the Foz.

I'd avoid the pressure kits that use the spare tyre as they can be messy. The one way valve (or speed bleeders) are the way to go.

Also, top tip is always gently release the brake pedal as you can get splash back from the reservoir which will go everywhere.
