Got my brakes fixed

Ever since I bought my car almost 3 new years ago, I've thought the brakes were substandard. Returning to the dealer brought the "they're normal" response ... and I have no way of knowing whether they actually even looked at them.

Yesterday, I took the car in for it's 30K mile maintenance, one item of which was to change the brake fluid. I noticed the difference immediately ... the brakes feel perfectly normal to me now. They stop much better now and don't have that mushy feel.

Probably had air in the system from the factory, but it's nice to know that the Forester brakes are fine and as good as any other car.

That's interesting. I take my wife's Forester in next month for the 30-month brake fluid change. (Only ~22K-miles on the car.)

Although the brakes always worked fine, the pedal also felt mushy to me from the start. So many people seemed to have that complaint that I never did anything about it.

Thanks for posting this!

Mike

In my case, the difference is fairly dramatic. Hope yours turns out that way too. Maybe the guys in the factory don't know how to bleed the air out when they fill the system, or don't take the time.

I had my brake fluid changed/flushed at 2 yrs/10,000mi because I felt the pedal was a bit soft/mushy and the fluid was almost due for a change anyway. I noticed a slightly firmer pedal after that. Then I installed a Cusco brake cylinder brace and the pedal was a little firmer still especially during harder braking. Fwiw, thought I'd pass on this info I got here on the forum about brake flushing on a newer vehicle:Master cylinder brace 2014+ xt
