Default 06 WRX rear 2-pots brakes with Kartboy brackets

I recently upgraded my rear brakes to 2006 WRX 2-pot rear calipers and ventilated rotors. The rotors are the same diameter as the “H-6" upgrade but ventilated. This install is no more difficult than your normal caliper and rotor replacement. So far they are working out great. I can't wait to test them with some mountain driving.:drive:

Here is the complete set up from SubieGal and Kartboy.

Once again Jamie comes through with a real nice kit. The only thing I added were upgraded brake pads and 4 brake line crush washers and 10mm speed bleeders.

Despite what the web site says they will clear XT rims.:clap1:

The Kartboy bracket makes this bolt on a breeze. They are one really well engineered product. I guess that goes without saying when talking about KB products. This upgrade is a real labor and parts intensive without these brackets. IMHO, they are worth every penny when you see what’s involved.

I did have to file the calipers a little for clearance. Somewhere I read that this will be addressed with the second batch of brackets. But what I had to file off was really nothing.

RallySportDirect.com supplied my KB bracket's but they seem to be out of stock right now. Here is another source.

I found it easier to prepack the calipers with pads shims etc. before the caliper installation.
For pads I used Hawk HPS to match my fronts. They are a little thicker than the OEM pads so I had to leave off the outer shim and just use some CRC brake quiet. They have been silent so far. My backing plates had been bent back out of the way to make room for “H-6" rotors and didn’t need any further adjustment. Just make sure that the KB bracket ends clear them. Mine were a close fit but it worked out fine.

I didn’t like the color match with my RacingBrake 4 pot front calipers so I painted them with red G2 caliper paint. This is nice stuff. It is a much closer match. JudyRu described the factory color as tomato soup with too much milk. My brother in law did the custom lettering.

Here is the finished install

Here is tip for when you are installing calipers. Pull fuse #16 so your brake lights don't stay on and use a board to keep the brake pedal down. Then the fluid won’t drain out while you work on the open system.

In addition to your normal tools you need an 8mm allen socket.

What calipers do you have on the front? If they're the Subaru red 4-pot, please please please take a picture of the whole car. I'm interested in seeing how well the red contrasts with the rest of the car. I'm debating between a full Brembo setup and the Subaru setup. Still comparing total cost of each. I already have front Brembo calipers but no rotors.

If the rear 2-pot will fit under XT rims, do the front ones as well?

I believe Peaty tested them and the front Subaru 4-pots do not fit under XT rims.
I need to take a picture of the car with this new setup. In the meantime here are what the fronts look like.

What about vbacking plates? What are they and do you need them? I'm looking at the three packages that are offered and don't know if I need them.

Just noticed the "Custom Lettering": SUPERU, nice

Kartboy brackets take the place of the 06 2-Pot backing plates. If you use the OEM backing plates you need to remove the rear knuckles /carriers and replace bearings, oil seals etc. which is labor intensive and not something we usually can do ourselves. The Kartboy brackets make the upgrade a DIY bolt in if you are comfortable working on your own brakes. The labor cost savings will more than pay for the fancy KB brackets.

Thats what I did. I used the "2-Pot Red Rear Brake Caliper kit (w/pads and rotors only)" package.

It's funny but I didn't want to do it at first. I set out to just reproduce the original Subaru logo. My brother in-law talked me into it.

I finally took our suggestion and I have a Perrin master cylinder brace on the way. Did you ever get a chance to look into a single stage MC booster replacement?

No I have not, but if you have, I want to hear all about it. I am really sick of the soft pedal feel in the FXT. I feel like Kat's OBXT has better braking feel stock and it is really upsetting with all the $$ I have out into the FXT's braking.

Don't get me wrong, the FXT brakes insanely quicker, and is hands down the better wagon at bringing the speed down, but the pedal feel is so much sweeter in the OBXT.

That being said, thar Perrin MC brace is really worth the money, in fact, it kept me out of a little "rear end lovin" at a stop light a
few days ago. I really felt it kick in, and that automatically pays for it self. I do still want the firmer brake feel, so let me know if you install the better brake booster.
