This thread is just plain cruel. I'm sitting here working night shift dreaming about all the things I can't go get to eat...
Casa Trejo: 34636 County Line Rd Ste 21, Yucaipa, CA My new favorite Mexican food place nearby, since my old favorite closed down last year Matano's Little Italy: 12114 California St, Yucaipa, CA Hole-in-the-wall Italian style deli. Fantastic sandwiches, salads, always busy. Try the Napolitano sandwich and Italian potato salad... mmmm, so good. George's Market: 1023 Calimesa Blvd, Calimesa, CA A local landmark, German market and deli. If you're in the mood for German, stop by at lunch and get the hotplate with bratwurst, sauerkraut and potato salad. Also a huge selection of German beer, fresh meat and other goodies from Deutschland. Mixt Greens: 120 Sansome St, San Francisco, CA For you Bay Area folks, my cousins just opened this restaurant. I haven't been able to make it up yet since they opened, but I hear it's great. So busy that they are opening a second location. If you stop by, let Leslie or Drew know that Josh sent you :) Tiger's Garden: 312 W 8th St, Vancouver, WA One of my favorite lunchtime stops when I lived in Vancouver. This restaurant is responsible for my addiction to Thai food. Still my measuring stick for Pad Thai. Great atmosphere, reasonable prices, friendly service. Leonardo's Italian Cafe: 15 E Main St, Battle Ground, WA There are a few Leonardo's Cafe's around the Vancouver area, but the one in Battle Ground always tasted the best to me for some reason. Amazing pizza. I'm not usually big on pizza, but I miss this place. Ok, that's about all I can take at this point... I think I'm starting to drool on the desk. |

Sushi is all about innovation. The traditional is good, but it'll only get you so far. Try Sagawa on Solano!

Bay Area Cheap Eats - for the grad student inside of you...
Renee's Place 1477 Solano Ave, Albany, CA This is a Chinese restaurant and they use some organic produce and Niman ranch meats. Go there for lunch - it is much less expensive than dinner, I think $6.95 gets you soup, tea, and a bento box-type deal with your choice of several lunch-sized entrees. House of Curries 2984 College Avenue, Berkeley, CA This place is an inexpensive, serve-yourself, free tea, cheap naan kinda Indian place. The food is really good. Chicken tikka masala, chicken kabab, thingie with spinach and potato, etc. Another location on Solano, too. La Calaca Loca, 5199 Telegraph Avenue, Oakland, CA I used to really like La Pinata in Alameda. I would get on these fajita/tequila binges where I just had to go there. No more. Besides being able to walk to this place from our house, it has the tastiest tacos and aguas I've had yet in the Bay Area. Also, amazing green sauce, which is extremely important to me. |

Bringing this thread back from the dead...
If you find yourself cruising the twisties on the backside of Napa (namely Hwy 121), treat yourself to a stop at the Monticello Deli. Best Gelato I've tasted outside of Italy... I forgot the exact name of the flavor, but I had the mint-infused chocolate variety, and it was the bomb! The flavor & texture were just perfect... I'll definitely be going back there with a cooler to get a pint or two! Being an Aussie who had a flying tour (24days) of the West Coast in 2000 my vote goes to Michelles Diner (if memory serves me right) on the corner of Broadway Street & Redwood Highway (5th Street) in Eureka has the best food I have ever had in my life and the remainder of the menu is #1 too especially their steak it's hard to put into words and Yummy - fantastic etc do not do it justice. The food was even better than what we had at Balley's in Las Vegas where stayed 3 nights.
We travelled 5,500 miles? in 14 days from SF > VC (BC) > Jasper NP > Spokeane > John Day > Las Vegas > LA where we spent 7 days and then 3 days in Santa Monica before flying home. Next year all things being going good we hope to be able to visit the East Coast USA & Canada.

While we are back in the Seattle area...had brunch at Portage Bay Cafe today...awesome! Its in the U district on Roosevelt Way. I recommend the dungeness crab eggs benedict. It will definately fill your belly.
BTW, Another good brunch place is Coastal Kitchen in Capitol Hill. |

I make it point to bring a cup of Ivar's clam chowder onto the plane when I fly out of Sea-Tac. It makes everyone on the plane jealous. ![]()
