Irvine, 40 mins - 2 hrs from LA depending on the time of day. I just went through two straight days of hellish traffic to get home from an LA convention ugh.

i live on the border of northern orange county and southern LA county.

i usually dont see LA referred to in the "city" sense inasmuch as just the general area of Los Angeles county.

TV people see LA as all of LA, Orange and San Bernardino Counties, and all of Riverside County, except for Palm Springs.

I think of it as an urban jungle on the other side of Oat Mountain that I only visit when I absolutely have to.
