Default Upper Radiator hose leaking, possibly require changing - steps?

Hi guys,

I recently bought a 2008 forester but realized that after riding it a few weeks there's a leak in the upper radiator hose where it goes into the engine. *edit* also looks like the power steering hose is in the way. It made some high pitch squealing noise after I moved it slightly yesterday when turning the steering wheel. Very odd.

1. is this a common problem?
2. how difficult is it to change it out (bledding the system for bubbles etc)?
3. should I use stock clamps or buy the screw on type clamps?
4. SHOULD.. I take it back to the dealership where I got it from since they carry a 1000/1month warranty (not sure if this is covered under it) and hope they don't charge me $$$ for labor?

It'll cost $24 for the hose and $2 for new clamps.

Thanks in advance,
Elijah

You haven't fixed this yet?
If you have warranty, take it back to the dealer.

The hose looks new. If you can get that 'squeeze' type clamp off without taking the hose off, you could then put a new screw type clamp on without loosing coolant.

Or, pull the hose off, cut about 3/4 of an inch off the end of the hose with a knife and put it back on with a new clamp, top off with new coolant.

I just called and scheduled a service appt, I hope this is covered under the limited warranty. I'll find out if I have to pay out of pocket.

Its a very simple job. Re-use the existing clamps. Have the dealer re-use them or better yet supply new spring clamps.

When you get the vehicle back. Let it cool and check the level in the radiator. Bring it back to full. I almost guarantee it will be low. Now would be a good time to purchase a new Subaru Radiator cap.

that's the most common place for a leak, the coolant is the hottest right there. Those spring loaded hose clamps are not reliable. I would have it replaced with a worm drive style or t bar style clamp

Thanks for the info. I am glad it's a common problem and not a 1 off issue only to my vehicle.

I'll get a new cap after they service it.

dropped it off, dealer found a weak clamp (replaced and topped off coolant), no out of pocket cost for me.
