OBX headers?

Anyone have them? I just read an old review from the infamous Pat Olsen where he compared the OBX to MRT and Cobb, and the OBX header won, espically in the low end.

It looks like they are about $300 shipped, and you can see significant gains. Something close to 17whp and over 10lb-ft.

Anyone have any experience with them? How much noise did they add? How do they sound? More importantly, how's the quality?

I might get a set this summer to try out. I'll wrap them with heat wrap, and probably paint them with header wrap paint.

Anyone know if they clear the Primitive sump guard?

I have them too. Fitment was spot on. Bolted up perfect. Quality was pretty good. The welds on mine were great, but I have heard others complain about theirs. PLEASE NOTE: I am still using the factory pipes/muffler with the OBX header. This probably explains my next statement!
It sounds like a weed-wacker in a metal trashcan. And I didn't notice much power gains. A little, but not much. Again, it's probably due to the stock cat-back.

It's great for the price, just make sure you have an aftermarket exhuast on the rest.

I wonder if an STi catback would help things a bit?

Like a weed-wacker? That sucks. Noisy and raspy? Bummer.

They sound like that 'cause they are equal length, not un-equal length like the stock headers. The un-equal length is what give subies their sound.

Of course they went to equal length for the stock on 06+ (at least for impreza). Look around, there's lots of threads on these headers and different options.

Also, note that the OBX headers replace the stock cat section with no cat :(

That's a bummer. I wanted to keep my cat.

I had equal length headers on my Turbo Legacy, and they sounded sick. Hmm... I'll post a video and you can compare sounds!

I don't think any stock Subaru comes with equal length headers.

Here are a few clips of my old car with equal length headers. Don't mind the tranny noise.... or the tire noise....

Clip 1

Clip2

How does the sound compare to the OBX headers on an N/A?

You need Quicktime to play the videos.

what kind of car was that? That didn't sound "Honda-ish" at all.

Thay was my 94 Turbo Legacy. You saw it when you were at the shop. Edwin bought it last year.

Ahhh, that was your beast? Why did you sell it? Edwin was talking it up when I was there for steering rack install.

I blew the tranny in November of 05. The car sat for 6 months before I had the time to toss a new tranny in there (straight cut dogbox). It sat in my garage for another 4 months while I did suspension, front mount, and some other odds and ends. I got it back on the road, and saw the impracticality of the car. I would almost never be able to drive it. It was a lot of fun, but I decided to sell it. I sold it to Edwin in October of 06, and that was that. At the time, I had 2 turbo legacys, a CBR600, and my Forester. Far too many toys for a 21 year old.

Sounded sick, didn't it? The headers definately changed the tone. I was torn on it for a while, but I decided that I did like it.

I would rather have my Forester sound like the legacy did before the headers, but for tone comparison, I'd like to hear thoughts.

I have the SS OBX header on my WRX w/ TurboXS 4"DP, CatDelete, and Catback.

It sounds like my old boss's Ferrari

It's a tuffy for me. I think it sounds good, but then again un-equal sounds good too!
