The indicator light is on the button you push for turning the cruise control system on or off, on the left lower dash. Little rectangle on the button that should light up yellowish. May be burnt out - the one on my '98 was.

yeah, that light works for me. but once the CC speed is set, i'm used to seeing an indicator light on the gauge cluster (of other vehicles including my parents' 05MY Forester). i just always thought the light was probably out.

i ended up purchasing a brand new OEM ignition coil pack. installed it yesterday and thus far no CEL. still doesn't feel any smooth. i hope i don't have a clogged catalytic converter, or have a bad fuel pump/filter/injector (/wiring).

after resetting my ECM after this last coil pack install, i've noticed after driving (i always let the engine idle for a couple min before i kill it) that the fans stay on. they used to just stay on for like a min at most, but now they don't want to shut off even after 5-7 min. i'm wondering if my ECM is faulty.

I sorry hear about your dilema, i would think it is a injector wiring issue but you said they are okay, just make sure! , only other thing i can think of is a bug in your ecm wonder if it needs to be reflashed .Hope you get this figured out.

Default misfire won't go away!

PO304 code (cyl4 misfire) again.

- swapped fuel injectors around
- new OEM ignition coil pack
- new OEM cam/crank sensors
- new AutoZone PCV valve
- new GoodYear vacuum hoses
- cleaned IACV and throttle body
- ran bottle of Techron
- new cheap NGK plugs from AutoZone
- new Duralast wires from AutoZone
- new Felpro headgaskets
- new waterpump from AutoZone
- new timing belt kit form eBay
- new front o2 (air/fuel ratio) sensor
- added 2 antifoulers to rear o2 sensor

anything more i'd be changing the entire engine. what else should i look for?

d'oh! i want to bang this engine up, silly.
i've had this issue since October right after installing a system into the car. and i'll be driving to MI come February. i'd try the seafoam stuff, but not right before my trip. especially since i know they're harsh on valve seals. and i'm sure my seals are original. ughh...

My point was don't you think a good mechanic (Subie Specialties comes to mind) would have fixed the problem without replacing all those parts just to eliminate any possibilities?

after, coming on here and reading about how members on here have gone that route? no.

"the mechanic replaced this or that but the CEL came back on."

"went to the dealer and they gave me the runaround and i ended up spending more for things that were just recently replaced or things that weren't necessary or things that didn't solve the issue."

i can't afford to pay a mechanic right now, which is why i did all the work myself (as i usually do). all the work i've done to it so far, it would have amounted to more than what i purchased the car for.

the engine runs fine for the most part, it's just that darned CEL. i'm still waiting for a reply from tre36 for that info he emailed the OP. i want to check to see if my cyl4 FI is getting the right voltage/power. and i'm wondering if i should have gone with OEM plugs and wires. also, i heard about getting my ECM reflashed.

i'm sure with the right resources that forums such as these provide, i can solve the issue sooner or later. but finding the problem later than sooner, is what i'm worried about.
