Speaker Spacers

Speaker spacers are offered for the following:

SF 98-02 models
SG 03-08 models
SH 09+ models

General info:

The spacers are 2 parts. The base layer is designed to mount using the stock holes, and is a 1/4" MDF.

The 2nd layer is MDF, and I use either 1/2" or 3/4" material based on how much clearance is needed. This creates a spacer that is 3/4" or 1" thick in total. These are cut to the exact inner and outer diameter needed for the speaker. No generic size is used like with most other spacers.

I apply a closed cell foam strip to the back (gray) to make a good seal to the door, and a foam speaker gasket to the top to seal the speaker to the spacer nicely. A Good seal great helps sound quality.

What you get:

Spacers cut to the specs of your speakers
Mounting hardward consisting of six 1" sheetmetal screws. These mount directly to the stock location
Truss head mount hardware is included to mount your speaker to the spacer.
Six 1/4" washers for mounting the spacer to the door.
3/32" drill bit to predrill your speaker mounting holes. This helps to prevent cracking.
(new) Two 8"x8" pieces of RAAMmat. These are to be applied direct behind the speaker mounting location. It helps deaden the metal and prevent sounds waves from reflecting straight back at the speaker. These "dead waves" are bad for sound quaility.

Prices and how to order:

Front pair: $35 shipped.
Front & Rear: $45 shipped

I only accept Paypal and payment can be sent to Scoobysubs@comcast.net. Please include your SF.com user name when ordering.

When you place an order, please PM me the following info:
Speaker brand/model
inner diameter (speaker cutout size)
mounting depth

Here are some sample pix:

Subkits are custom made for your speaker at the time yuo order. I offer driver side and passenger side kits for all 03-08 models (98-02 are below). The kits do vary depending what speaker you are using and what model your vehicle is, but for the most part they are 99% the same across the line.

These kits cone in 8" and 10" driver side, and 8" passengerside options. They are designed for the 2003-2008 Forester and they will hold nearly any sub that is 10" or smaller with under 4.75"" of depth.

WHAT YOU GET
These kits consists of nearly everything you need to do the install.
It includes:
1- three layer Front baffle (1/2" MDF face, 1/4 spacer, 3/4" MDF speaker mount.
(The middle "spacer" piece is to help give you more cone clearance)
1- bottom insert (3/4" MDF)
1- left side insert (1/2" MDF)
1- Right side insert (1/2" MDF)
1- 18"x2"x2" foam piece for the top
1- pair of spring speaker terminals (not the plate shown in the picture below)
8- self-taping sheetmetal screws
8- standard screws for mounting the kit
8- speaker mounting screws
4- 1/4" washers
1- 1/8" drill bit
1- Speaker gasket
1- foam gasket (for baffle, pre-installed)
1- Speaker grill w/grill cloth (Driver side-X, XS only.)
Grill cloth choices include: Black, Gray or tan- to match your interior
4 feet of RAAMmat (enough for the install and extra deadening)

Panel removal & kit install instructions can be found here:(http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulle...765#post267765

Install Guide and Pix

Install guide with pictures adn diagrams can be found here:
How to: Install Sea-Scooby sub kit

Installation of these pieces is very simple, and they take only a few minutes to get into place. Drilling is minimal, with only 2 holes needed. Self taping screws are used to hold on the front baffle, so no need to drill. Just screw them into my pre-drilled countersunk holes.

The time comsuming part is removing the panels and the sealing of the location. The more time you spend sealing the area with the provided caulk and RAAMmat, the better the results. When you consider the OEM 6x9 sub in the XT sounds decent and basically has no type of sealed area, just installing the MDF pieces alone would be a huge improvement. Time and patients sealing the area will only make it better. Please allow 4+ hours for the install.

If you are in need of a subwoofer or amp, checkout these websites. They always run great deals. This kit was designed around the most popular subwoofer, the Kicker CompVR but It also works great with ANY 8" sub that has a similar size and specs.

This thread is slowly being put together, but feel free to post in it if you want. Pix will be updated to more current ones soon.

What I can make is not limited to what is shown in this thread. If you have a custom request let me know and I'll see what I can do. I've done similar setups for other cars too, so it isn't limited to the Forester, but being local for custom stuff does help.

I'll have to check NASIOC. I'm rarely on there for more than a couple minutes checking the classified ads, so I never notice if I have PMs there. they need a pop up like we have here!

I'm still making kits and I have a batch of 8 of them we are making "blanks" for future orders for. Turn around time is usually 2 weeks, but when I have a batch of blanks, it shortens the turnaround time to a few days. I'll PM you here. that way I will see your response.

Chris sold me a pair of spacers over a year ago, it was a very professionally made product and still holds up very well. Wish I could afford the sub kit.

+1!

Thanks!

A week or so ago I did a local install and I came up with a 10" solution I was happy with, so 10" kits are now a very realistic option for both the SF and SG. Users are still limited to 4.75" or so of depth, but the new Kicker CompVT 10" fits!

We also know the 10" Pioneer ib-Flat series fits, but just barely!

Newb question, do the spacers in the front affect how the door panel fits?

I still have the Kicker square 8" sub that wouldn't fit in the SG. Any way it'll fit in the SF?

Want to work on anything for the Tribeca?

Timing is perfect on these items!

2 Questions:

1) I haven't decided which speakers I want to use in the front and rear doors. I'm sure that they will be 6.5" coaxial. Can I order the speaker spacers and drill my own speaker mount holes?

Any plan to make a subkit for the 2009 - 2010 SH model Forester?
