I hate how you turn on the lights on the same area that you use to operate the turning signals....hate that... on my passat it was a switch in its own area on the left side of the steering wheel on the dash!

By the way, guys, I appreciate that we're willing to talk about the shortcomings of our cars here (and hope for future improvements).

On another forum I frequent, let's just say for "fruit-flavoured" electronics, they seem to frown on anyone who has a complaint about the design of the product. Surely it's YOU that's flawed, and not the product, is the attitude I see all too often!

Actually I don't mind that and find it is fairly universal now on Euro & Jap models anyway... what I don't like so much (and I'm sure it has been mentioned a few times now) is the auto on the older Forester's can be all too easily put into '3' instead of 'D' especially if one is in a rush. I tend to check the light on the dash to make sure 'D' is engaged.

Default rear leg room

if anyone taller than 5'5 sits in the back, you have to fold them in half.
you might as well fold down the back seats and let them lay down, they would be a hell of a lot more comfortable.

i'm used to an element, which while noisier, has great passenger and cargo space........never mind the higher clearance and AWD that can keep up with any subaru

I have sat in the back of mine and i am 6 foot 270 and it's perfectly fine unless the front seats are all the way back.

The older ones had far less room in the back seat...

New pet peeve for me is the noise the mirrors make when driving through heavy rain...

Speaking from 1,500 miles on my '13 and coming from a quick jaunt from a dying '03 4X4 Grand Cherokee, to a VW CC, then '09 2WD Grand Cherokee POS....

- Front doors sound like I'm slamming my aluminum shed door when I shut it quickly, sounds cheap and flimsy. Gotten me to the point of not slamming it in public. Rear doors have two latch points and sound solid.
- Stereo sounds like my Razr Maxx turned up full volume, even with MP3 playing or CD, brassy and cheap sounding. Not sure if this is the stereo or the speakers (or both). Coming from massively amped Boston Acoustics stereo makes it really stand out... bad. Didn't like being faked out by SAT button but no built in SAT (had to cancel Sirus).
- Faked out (again) with fog lights that were plastic molds and not lights :O( Was too excited with buying my first new car and didn't notice.
- Miss having a separate rear hatch window that opens without opening the whole hatch. Also have not slammed head on open hatch as we often have 'yaks on top and kind of used to having the hatch hit the 'yaks and not open all the way. Lesson learned long ago (and scars mostly faded).
- Wish it had an active MPG gauge rather then just tallied from a trip meter. Nice to see what your driving habits are doing right then, not after you traveled some trip distance. Also, reaching around steering wheel to access trip meter knob to see trip stats is damn dangerous when driving!
- Put seat covers on front and rear to protect cloth from our muddy gritty abuse and the cover over the rear side of the bench seat backs made it almost impossible to put the rear covers on. If it snaps off we couldn't do it, felt like we were gonna destroy it trying. Got it done but it ain't purdy.

Just did a 400 mile fully loaded va-ca trip with two 'yaks and all gear and averaged almost 25mpg... love it! Also, the massive stupendous gigantic terrific amazingly big moon roof is great! But did I mention the front doors and stereo are pitiful?

Drove a 2012 Honda Civic as a rental car and it had a busy dash with lots of digital but only a speed guage no RPM. Boring if you ask me. I don't need all these digital readouts. Give me the simplicity of the Subaru dash any day, or better yet, give me a VW German dash with all the gadgets AND the analog readouts!

Body side moldings should have came installed as a standard because the side doors look like a target for shopping carts.
