Welcome. Hope it's not goodbye. Possibly a bearing? From what I understand if that happens you may be facing a rebuild. Keep us updated.

Yep,misshifting can be dangerous/very expensive. So far I've been lucky, but sometimes the mind or the body just ain't working right.Good luck,& if ya' gotta' pull the motor, maybe slide an automatic in at the same time...just teasin'. 8-)

When I had the dogbox in my old Legacy, I did a 2-1 clutchless downshift. From 7000 RPM in 2nd, clutchless to 1st. The tach pegged out and boy did it sound nasty. Never had a problem though. My buddy did the same, though with the clutch, on a Mazdaspeed3 Test Drive. THAT was NASTY. The car made some heinous noises going back to the dealership.

A friend of mine was driving my Forester, me in the passenger seat. He went to pass someone, and accidentally down shifted from 5th to 2nd. We were going 50 MPH at the time. BOY!! Did that needle ever shoot!! That was when my car was new, but I haven't had any problems with it. He didn't hold it there in 2nd, just long enough for the both of us to get a good jolt! LOL

How long did you leave it in 2nd before it started knocking?

it wasnt in there for long maybe like 3 sec tops.... but i clutched and took it out as soon as it happened..... the car started knocking after driving a couple miles after i parked it and started it back up to go to the gas station tho... i had a question do you guys know if boost spikes can make the engine weak enough that this would happen?

That's gonna cure me of considering purchase of rental or demos!
