Subaru symbol

What does the Subaru symbol stand for or mean? Is there some story behind the big star and 5 little stars? Is it just some random insignia?

The same as every other mission statement for companies that decide to waste their time making one:

"Provide Products XYZ at a fair price, be an industry leader in value, customer service and loyalty, protect the environment, and provide a safe and healthy workplace. Blah blah blah."

Keep in mind that only 6 of the stars are commonly visible to the naked eye, particularly in urban areas with a lot of light pollution. The other Japanese name for the Pleiades (Mutsuraboshi) translates as "six stars."

The Subaru symbol is also not a direct representation of the star cluster, but an adaptation of it. It represents the five companies that merged (the smaller stars) to form FHI (the larger star).
