Default Should I buy this Forester?

Ok - so I don't actually own a Forester yet; I am, however, seriously considering purchasing a 2006 Forester X with 101,000 miles on it for 10,500. I thought it would be a good idea to get some advice from those in the know. The car is a single-owner formerly leased vehicle. I am assuming that because the miles are so high they are mostly hwy miles. I have no idea if the Subaru reccomended maintenance was done. My fear is that I will purchase the car and end up with thousands in repair bills over the next couple years. I am looking for general opinions on whether or not this would be smart purchase. I look forward to your advice!

i recently bought a 2006 forester XT with 91k miles for 13,300. sounds like a fair price for a non turbo, but if you could live with the older body style, 10k could easily get you a car with much lower mileage from ~03-05.

You will have an almost immediate bill at 105,000 miles for the timing belt and related parts. This will come to well over $1,000, but won't be repeated soon. (Armed with this information, you may be able to get that price lowered.)

You need to check the major fluids to see what condition they are in, also brakes and tyres. The condition of the interior and bumper covers should give you some idea how well it's been looked after. It would be advisable to get a mechanic's report on it too (not from where you are buying it).

That's a lot of miles. A Subaru should last almost indefinately though.

Expect to spend a few thousand to get it up to par. Replace all fluids, clutch, timing belt, water pump, oil pump, gaskets, spark plugs, coolant flush, AT flush if it's an automatic, air filter, etc. It'll add up, but the investment would very likely pay off with a car that'll last as long as you want.
