Default Rattles on '09?

Some reviews & owners have mentioned rattles in the '09 Forester. How rattlefree are most of you finding your new Foz? I don't like the low passenger seat or no visor extensions, but hard to quell rattles would not be a plus.

Not many miles on mine, currently just shy of 300 miles, but so far there are no rattles and I'm really hoping it stays that way

My rattles started right after they installed the leather seats. It was the back seats. The dealer took care if it and all gone now.

I just passed the 450 mile mark and so far only the sunroof visor or whatever it's called makes a little bit of noise when the roof is fully opened and the cover pushed back. Only when you go over rough roads. It's been like that since day one when i got the car. Not sure if this is common on the 09's. Other then that i haven't heard anything else. Hopefully it remains that way...

I did test drive a demo 09' Forester it had close to 5k miles and it was pretty much rattle free. I didn't hear any noise.

I have an '09 X with 5500 miles and don't have any rattles to speak of. Those few times when I heard a rattle, it was something that I put in the glovebox or door pockets. Really a very tight vehicle IMO.

Oh I forgot to mention I was given an '09 Forester as a loaner vehicle for a couple days. It had about 5,500 miles on it and I didn't notice any rattles in it

No rattles here, we just passed 2300 miles. I have noticed a real slight buzzing noise coming from the passenger side door. Not sure what that is, but I can't hear it when I turn on the radio. I'm still trying to get used to the thunk from the rear when going over a speed bump or rough roads. I'm worried that it will get worse over time.

What do you think it could be? Loose spare tire? Something in the storage tray? Or is it in the suspension?

5000 miles, no rattles - though I know from experience if the rear hatch isn't fully latched it will make the sort of noises you're describing. And sometimes it's hard to tell if you don't look closely at it.

Spare is tight, storage tray is weighed down by some tools and other stuff. It only happens when I go over a bump at speed or a rut on the highway. The sound is like shutting the door, only sharper, if that makes any sense.

I thought that too, but I don't think the alarm system would arm if any of the doors were not shut all the way. Atleast that's how it was on my Toyota.

Thank you all for the responses.I know nothing's perfect, but,it's good to know that basicly the '09 is a tight package in more than a few ways. Really, the current CAR & DRIVERarticle is the only review I've seen that mentions rattles(on 2 Foresters they drove). They still liked the Foz & said they highly recommend it.

I've got about 2800 miles so far and the only rattle so far is the luggage cover on certain bumpy asphalt roads. I'm gonna try working some old chamois around the mount to see if it quietens down.

Open the rear hatch and have two people sit up and down on edge of the cargo floor to give the rear suspension a deep bouncing. If the sound is in the suspension, that should bring it out.

The only rattles that I have noticed so far are those that are caused by things I have placed in various bins, cubbies and compartments. The worst one took me an entire afternoon to track down. I finally discovered that my Aviator sunglasses in the overhead compartment were rattling against the hard plastic of the bin.

I make good use of micro-fibre cloths in wrapping hard items - which effectively deadens the rattles - with the benefit of having lots of cloths around to clean up any messes.
