Default Question about Accessories for 2010 Forester

Hello All

I am new to this forum and also to the World of Subaru. This past Sunday, I purchased my First Subaru, a 2010 Forester 2.5x Premium w/All Weather 5 Speed, Sage Green Metallic.

So far I am loving it. Now I am looking at getting many of the Official Subaru Accessories for it, like Rear Roof Spoiler, Fog Lamps, Puddle Lights, etc.

But I have a few questions from people who may already have some of the accessories that I am thinking about getting.

First I guess this would only pertain to anyone who has a 2009 or 2010 Forester perhaps, but I could be wrong.

Ok, First off, does anyone have the Subwoofer Accessory that goes under the driver seat? Is it worth the upgrade to that? Because the existing stereo definately lacks some bass.

Also, the cup holders, I have not been able to test yet, but can the space in the center conlsole really hold your fountain drinks and what not securely or do they make something that can fit in thier to hold drinks better? From the looks of it, it doesnt seem like smaller fountain drinks may hold securely in there.

Has anyone installed the Chrome Exhaust Finishers themselves? Is there any welding nececssary or is it a snap on type feature, because I want to get that also.

Also, how much does maintenance cost? Especially the 30k mile service?

I had a few more questions but cant remember at the moment. I will ask in the future when I remember and I will also post Pics as soon as I get some decent ones.

Thanks for your help in advance:

Welcome to the Forum and congrats on your new ride. As far as the accessory mods go, from subaru, they are pretty much plug and play. You do need some, not much, mechanical ability! I have done several. Ipod, Front Spoiler, Multilink rearview mirror, Footwell Illumination. all pretty easy just some time!. Go here for info about accessory install: http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulle...ssories-32445/.
You'll find many helpful nice people here!!! Also use the search feature here........you may find the answer to your questions before you ask, just FYI! Put your info in your signature (like mine below) so that when you ask a question people will know to what it pertains, you wont have to post it every time.

Welcome. I didn't have the 30K maintenance done bc most things are relatively easy to do yourself. Plugs may be your only challenge and there are write ups to do it yourself. Plugs don't physically need changed at 30K.

Thanks for all the comments, I will definately take all the suggestions into consideration.

Has anyone actually used the Suboower that goes under the Driver Seat?

Does it produce good base? Is it worth getting?

Thanks

For the subwoofer, I have not yet heard one on the 09/10 Foresters yet, but I did one on my 01 Impreza and it made for a nice difference. True audio heads are probably not going to like it, but I am not a big audio guy (rather go fast!)

The exhaust tips are very easy to install, I just installed a set today and it literally takes longer to get them out of the packaging. One 10mm bolt and you are done.

If you need any accessories I would definitely recommend talking with one of our forum sponsors such as Jackie at Annapolis Subaru, Greg at (I forget! He used to be at Marin) or myself. You can find contact info in the vendor classifieds section or in the individual vendor forums.

You may want to get the tweeter kit before you buy subwoofer

I have it along with the tweeters and yes it sounds good, It fills out the bottom end very nicely. Its not going to win any stereo competitions but it made a mediocre stereo a nice sounding one with decent bass.

+1... it's not the greatest OEM system but it is definitely 10x better with the subs and tweets then without!!!

Is there a certain setup that gets optimal sound with just the 4 speakers we're given? Obviously out of the factory everything's set to neutral.. just wondering if there's a common setting that's best.

It's interesting that the cargo nets are different for the 2010 than the 2009, and the parts sites differentiate between them, but not why. I've looked at the 2009 instructions, and it mentions drilling holes, but in the 2010 I see there's an oval cutout with a cap that sits more or less where the holes should go.. maybe they have mounts built in now, and I just need to pop the cover?

I still have to check it out some more..

Our 09 has the tweeters but not the sub.....Anyhow, I've found that by tuning the "middle" way down, into the negative numbers (-4 or -5) the stereo is much cleaner and not so cheap sounding.....IMO

I don't have an 09/10, but changing out my stock head unit was a bigger difference than I thought it would be.

as far as the under seat sub-woofer goes I'd say go for an aftermarket piece. The only thing is you will have to tap into the existing wires but you'll get a better sound out of the aftermarket one plus there are several available for cheaper then the OEM one.

^ +1.

If you're an audiophile or an otherwise discriminating listener, go for aftermarket.

Otherwise, the factory sub can do fairly well, and the install is a no-brainer.

My wife and I fit the latter category. :) I got a used OEM under-seat, for a hefty discount, for my Legacy.
