I agree with one about General Forum USE topics such as damu suggested.

I think the FAQ questions are falling into a few categories, and it might be helpful to think about everything in these terms:

- I'm making a purchase of some kind, i need help! (sub sections would be: vehicle, fluids, parts (could be subdivided into drivtrain, brakes, ICE, interior, etc)
- How do I perform task X (install a stereo, swap speakers, bleed the brakes, take off a door panel, etc) - a good entry in this section should also include relevant links to other information - brake swap could include links to info about pad compounds, part numbers, and caliper upgrades)
- Things you should know about owning forester (stuff like "what is this plug, parking light switch)

All that being said, I'm a big fan of the ICE thing, so i think the most helpful would be stereo swap directions and part interchanges in an SF or SG. (how to take apart the dash to get to the stereo, OEM part interchanges, what double-DIN means, etc)

Cheers!

A link to my MT-FAQ would be helpful, a lot of the forums MT questions have been answered in that thread.

Most of the install threads should be in the DIY forum though, right?

I like the idea of a suspension interchange link, and a general parts interchange listing. These would probably have to be contributed to by members with experience. A compendium if you will.

From a noobs perspective, some of the things I wondered about that could be addressed in a FAQ are:
Head gasket issues, which models are most affected, etc.
Which model is which, I've seen SF, SG, etc. tossed around a bit and I'm not sure what means what.

I think the first post in every section should be a "How to" sticky. Inside it could all the links that pertain to that section. The current "How to" section is nice, but it is kind of tough to find anything in it with all the TSBs mixed in. Most people don't even think to look in it either.

Great idea, looking forward to this taking off

I have some model spec info to contribute. Apologies if you have this allready somewhere, the info comes up from Japanparts and details the sf/sg with the a/b/c/d/e etc model codes against manufature dates, much like the sidc sites FAQ for the impreza if anybody knows that, where it lists japanese production runs. I have asked them to put some more meat in when they have time. I will post up what they sdent so far if you like.

Yeah, I agree. I was thinking it would be nice to have a FAQ for each technical section as a sticky (and it would include the how-to stuff), and then have a FAQ sticky in the Newbie forum with forum useage FAQ's and links to the ones in the tech sections. If that makes sense.

Sounds good. Certainly covers the concern that I had in my earlier post. Incidentally, I'm continuing to update proposed subjects and links back in that original post. Seems better than adding them in bit by bit in new posts as they occur to me.

One problem about our current organization is that engines are divided into two separate forums, NA and Turbo. It's a coin toss where a thread about something common to both might end up, and there are lots of things that would fall into this category. It would probably be good to identify these and ensure that a link is posted in the FAQs for both types of engines, regardless of which forum the post is actually contained in.

Hope you don't mind Silke, I took a little initiative and started a FAQ on basics in a couple of sections. All here!!
General Ownership questions
Turbo Questions
Suspension Questions
Brakes Questions
Interior/Exterior/Electronics

I'm doing my best to scour and post. I'm also using some of the resources on this post. If it's counter-productive and I'm wasting my time, let me know and feel free to delete the thread.
