OK, here goes. For reference I'm 34...

81 Plymouth Reliant: Hand-me-down from my parents. Got me through my senior year of high school and one year of college. Basic transportation.

85 VW Golf: Bought with proceeds from selling the Plymouth. 11 years after selling it I still miss it. Not much power but so much fun to drive. It had 103K miles when I took it home and it left my hands with 210K on the clock. Amazingly reliable even though I beat the snot out of it.

95 Ford Probe GT: My first new car. Reasonably quick, handled great, and I could fit tons of stuff in the back. Kept it as a beater for a while after buying the FXT and finally sold it 2 years ago after 130K trouble-free miles.

97 Honda Civic: Well, this was actually my wife's but I wrote the checks after we got married. Nice car, but it never grew on me. Glad it was just a 2-year lease.

99 Mistusbishi Eclipse GS-T Spyder: The beginning of my descent into turbo addiction. After getting used to the turbo lag this was a lot of fun, especially in top-down weather. We bought it to replace my wife's Civic. It was "hers" until she was too pregnant to fit behind the wheel. Other than having the shifter linkage come apart on my way to work one morning and a horribly leaking roof for the last few months of ownership it was a rather uneventful 100K miles. Which leads us to...

04 FXT: Obviously we love this car and I don't need to explain its virtues here. This is also the only auto tranny I've owned since my Plymouth. Took delivery of the car on Sept 23, 2003, took delivery of our son on Dec 19, 2003.

01 Audi S4: After enduring a year of having both an infant and an Eclipse it was time for another "grown-up" car. I stumbled on this car, off-lease 6-speed with very low miles. Tons of power thanks to the 2.7T, excellent handling in all conditions, and unmatched refinement. Truly a stealthy car.

So there you have it. It's great to be at a point where both my wife & I are completely happy no matter which set of keys we grab on the way out the door.

My list in order of acquisition- I am 27 by the way.
1. '76 Chevy Monte Carlo with a 350-didn't run when my dad gave it to me but ran beautifully till the tranny went out.
2. '89 Dodge Shadow Mom's old car that she sold me when she got a new car-ran ok until just about everything died at once. Was not made to last.
3. '79 Ford Grenada with a straight 6. A beast of a vehicle but ran well for the 300 dollars I paid for it-hey, I was going to college at the time and it was cheap!
4. '76 Chevy 1/2 PU-also with a straight six. Very nice truck for its age until I got side swiped by a one ford diesel that ran a stop light and totaled her.
5. '91 Honda Prelude- my wife's car-not a VTEC-was a nice car but we sold it shortly after getting married since I am just over six feet tall and would hit my head on the roof on every bump in the road and we had just one car at the time.
6. '92 Ford Crown Victoria-actually got 30mpg on the highway with it. Not my first choice for a car but was cheap and ran for five years.
7. '88 Ford Astrovan-was given to me for free. Lasted about a year. Had 280k on it when I got it, and was given a proper burial when she died.
8. '02 Subaru Forester-By far the best vehicle I have ever owned-just look at the list. Living in Northern Minnesota the ABS and AWD are excellent. I purchased it used with a salvage title but it still runs perfect. Never had any problems. Grandpa had an 80's Brat that I always liked, so I have been hoping to find a Sub in good shape for a decent price for years-I work for a non-profit so brand new vehicles is still a dream.

I probably average two a day.

(I can feel a 'moderation' coming on.)

I've only had 3 cars, but they are more like kids to me than possesions.

1st car was a 1968 420G Jaguar. It was 20 years old before I bought it, and was over 30 years old when I sold it. (I like a car with experience)

2nd car was a 1992 Honda CRX Targa roof, DOHC VTEC. (del-Sol in the US) Still got it, and will keep it as long as I have the gararge space. It's a hoot to drive at 8000rpm and has one of the best gearboxes around.

3rd is the XT, as the 'daily driver'. It's a lot easier to 'own' other cars with the XT than the CRX. (which takes planning and execution to just be competative against todays crop of V8s or turboed Front wheel drive hatches.) I hope to hang onto this one for a long time. It will probably get modded once the lease is up.

Hmmm...

1. 1989 Honda Accord DX Coupe
2. 1996 Honda Civic EX Coupe
2. 1997 Chevrolet S-10 LS, 3rd door.
3. 2000 Jeep Wrangler Sport
4. 2004 Subaru Forester X
5. 2006 Dodge Sprinter 140 SHC

Of all the vehicles, the S-10 (4cyl, 5spd) is my favorite.

71' GMC Pickup 3/4 ton
77' Toyota Corona
89' Mitsubishi Mirage
87' Mitsubishi Galant
97' Toyota Sienna
06' Forester

The GMC was my grandfathers, the most interesting and was what I learned to drive with, the Toyota Sienna was a great van and had 190,000+ trouble-free miles on it.

So far, I'm loving the new Subaru.

1)1977 Mercedes Benz 300D - 4500 pounds 77 hp and a 4-speed automatic in which first was only a kick down gear and went up to about 15 MPH.

2)2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse - looked good, went slow and handled pretty poorly and got me pulled over.

3)2004 VW GTI 1.8t - most fun to drive among the first three, had a nice interior, and I got an amazing deal on it, I probably could have sold the car for a profit after buying it. Instead, I drove it for about a year before some lady cut me off resulting in a lot of damage and a totalling of the car. Settlement came out to be around the original purchase price, maybe a little bit more.

4)2004 Subaru Forester 2.5 XT - fastest car to date, and probably the safest. Bought used for probably a little more than I should have paid. Tranny cracked within about a month and had to fight with Subaru and the place I bought it from to get it fixed, took about a month. I'm now afraid to mod it because I think the transmission is going to pop if I put in a DP and chip. Don't have cash for a new tranny, so I'll have to wait on modding.

Here is my list,in order.

72 Chevy Nova 2 door
88 Dodge Ram D150
89 Dodge Dakota 4wd
96 Dodge Dakota 2wd
83 Chrysler Town&country wagon($600 commuter)
83 Mazda RX-7 (retired,but still have)
99 Mazda B4000 4wd (Troy Lee edition)
89 Ford F-150 4wd
92 Dodge Ram D250 Cummins turbo Diesel 5 speed(for sale,reluctantly)
74 Mazda RE/PU(still own)
79 Mazda RX-7 GS(current toy,see avatar)
03 Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab 2wd Hemi(new camper hauler for growing family.Man I miss driving the 92 D250)

Somewhere in there I bought a 83 Toyota 4wd truck that I planned big things, but never got around to it.

This is a small list, but I have only been driving since 91 so I think I have a problem.

Only 2 V8's on the list,6 six cylinders,3 rotaries,5 automatics, and only one front wheel drive.

I would say my 83 RX-7 was the most fun,and influential car I have ever owned, but my 79 GS is the best one of them all.As far as the trucks go my 92 Cummins is by far the best ever.235K miles, and running like a champ.

I've had 5 and I'm 31 for the record.

In order of appearance;

'85 Suzuki Sierra - Removable hard top, bull bar. Owned it for 9 months. Sold when it started using nearly as much oil as petrol.
'89 Ford Capri - Not a LEMON! Fitted a CD stacker and she was a great cruiser.
'92 Nissan NXR - 15"Alloys and sub assisted stereo. Loved this car. I'd have owned another if circumstances allowed - and they were still available new in Australia.
'99 Suzuki Grand Vitara. V6 Limited - Bull bar, rear bar & tow, driving lights, springs & shocks, 10 stack CD & mini disc player. Great for getting away (not that my work allows much). 1st new car i owned.
'05 MY06 FXT/L - Love it!

1989 VW GTI 16V
1999 VW Passat GLS 1.8T
2003 Ford Focus SVT
2005 Subaru Forester XT

I guess the two VWs are my fondest. The GTI was my first car and man was that thing fun. How I never killed myself in it, I don't know. The Passat afterwards was my first new car to go along with my new job out of college. Thing was awesome, until my dad backed up into it...

Will always have fond memories of my Mazda - No power, rattled like nothing else, no aircon but It was my first car.

I obviously like the Forester best but to be fair it is in a different league!
I think that just about sums it up for me too. My 1988 Mazda 323 LTD (a 5 door hatchback) was a fantastic first car. Ah, the memories. It had a fair amount of power and started out with aircon but I lost count of the times I regassed it due to a slow leak.

The Forester doesn't quite compare, with about twice the power to weight ratio, 4WD, ABS, airbag, somewhere to put the sunglasses, etc.

Mind you, the Mazda had self-added spotlights, foglights, ski rack (at times), headlight relays, a total of 8 air horns... I could get 750 watts of light out the front of it!

The Forester has a long way to go to catch up in some areas.

And I can't believe I'm still the only person who has had exactly two cars.
