2004 model has 210 hp yet it claims to have a 0-60 time of 5.3 seconds from Car & Driver magazine. I find that hard to believe. Can any forester owners confirm this? even if it is under 6 seconds, i be very impressed.
Thanks. |

It's all in the gearing. I've never been able to hit 5.3, or have even tried, but I've heard that an average run will still remain under 6 seconds. I'm sure they revved that thing all the way up and dumped the clutch to achieve a 5.3. Not worth it to me.

They scoot just fine. They just lack top end with such a small turbo. No top end = low HP numbers. However, the rating shows NOTHING about torque or the curve it covers. Frankly, the TD04, when tuned, is a powerhouse in the low to mid rpm range.

Yup, I've managed to beat 6 seconds in my stock XT with the auto trans. These suckers are quick.

4.44 final drive ftw... it's all in the gearing. That, and the small TD04 turbo make the XT a torque monster.

Under 6 seconds is pretty easy to achieve in an XT manual. They are quick cars and the TD04 is great down low. With a VF39/43, under 5 seconds is not too tough to do if you lauch decent.

How quick is it? Let's just say it's an eye-opener for just about everyone who's ever ridden in one. My first test drive ended with something like, "no WAY this car is this fast!"

i read somewhere that the horsepower is really around 230-240 at the crank. i've never gotten 5.3 from 60. the better time to look at is the 5-60 and the 50-70. these are more realistic times to compare a car. 0-60 is largely a measure of who's driving due to the launch.

The combination of small turbo and low gear mean nearly instant on power. The bad thing is the little TD04 turbo runs out of steam not long after 5k RPM. Basically you drive an XT the OPPOSITE of how you drive a Honda.
