Default Gas Cap Frozen Shut!

My '08 Forester's gas tank lid is frozen shut, so I can't refill my tank. Anyone know how to remedy this? Thanks!

well it's less red-necky than shooting it..

that has happened to me as well, I tapped it loose.
I found that if you have the cap closed right the plastic attach cord thing will push against the door, gives it a little more spring in the winter.. if you will.

Banging on it a few times solved the problem. Hopefully I don't dent my car, and hopefully this isn't a recurring problem. Thanks for the tips.

I hate to say I used my house key when this happened to me a couple of weeks ago. No scratches and I was able to fill up!

If you're at home, just use a hair dryer. The hood on my Sentra used to freeze shut all the time.

I always carry a small squirt bottle of Methyl Hydrate for emergencies like this. A squirt around the lid and a one minute wait should be all that is required.

This use to happen to me on a weekly basis when i was living in burlington, VT. I would go to the station, pull the gas tank lever, go to pump and notice it was frozen shut...It was always the bottom part of it that would freeze shut. So like mentioned above, I would take my car keys and scrape out the ice but unfortunately I have a few scratches from it.
