Well... After much concern, contemplation, a bit of mental constipation and some frustration.. A decision was made and with an interesting stroke of fate, I'm in new wheels and my wife is now the happy camper in her new-to-her Forester XT 4EAT.
I shall be picking up a 2008 Honda Civic Si Sedan in galaxy gray this afternoon... If not familiar, it's the sport'd Si out version with sport suspension, 2L 197HP inline 4 that winds up to an 8k redline, 6MT. Check out the engine sound in the vid: 2007 Honda Civic Si Sedan Car Review | Roadfly.com: Car Reviews & Road Tests Quite a fairly comfy sedan with adequate room and great rear seat room as well. Not the fully functional hatch, but we have the forester for that. So now I get my manual transmission fix with adequate power, though it's not a boxer. I'll certainly still hang out here to share and gain info on foresters as this is probably one of the best forums with the best folks I've seen yet.

Also I would like to add that Seth at Grayson (here in the forum) worked with me quite hard with patience and great information when I was seriously considering a WRX. Though I went a completely different direction with a Honda, that I've had been interested in for a long time, I would like to express gratitude for Seth's work with a solid and firm recommendation if you're anywhere near the Knoxville area in the subaru market.. Seth's the man.

Congrats on the new ride! I really like those cars but the hood angle seemed like it would get some time to get use to. It is wierd not really seeing anything when you look out front.

yeah I thought it might be an issue, but really the front end of the car is so short it seems and with the dash layout also being different, I think it will be a cool adjustment. Not seeing the hood believe it or not, isn't that big a deal.. It's perception of where the front bumper is I guess.
The biggest thing will be the engine and transmission differences. Going from turbo boxer4 w/ 4EAT to inline high-revving 4 with 6MT will be the real differences I think.. plus in a lighter car. First front wheel drive I've had in a while, and very first Honda, so I'm looking forward to it.

I just joined the forum (in the last half hour) and am getting a stripper '09 2.5X if all goes well.
My wife is driving an '07 Civic LX with an automatic, and it has been a great car. Only exception is that the interior matte plastic materials scuff if you look at them hard... She was T-Boned by a Mich state trooper in the Civic, and the right side airbags went off (car did GREAT). It is now in the bump shop with their magical interior touchup guy fixing all the damage the mechanic did to the plastics when replacing the headliner and all the right side air bags.... The ultra-high revving motors can be fun if you have an opportunity to let them run, but are weird and peaky in traffic (I test drove cars like prior si's, Vibe GT's, etc). I'd personally rather have a bit more torque for what I normally do. You do get used to the faraway dash and invisible hood fairly soon--my wife loves the big-digit speedo--and I've noted that I can easily see my speed when I'm backing out of the driveway :) My "fun" car is a '91 BMW 318is, with a 1.8 liter four, that I've owned since 1994....and I have a full size Ford van as well. The Forester looks to be a great everyday commuter and light bicycle carrier for my purposes... Didn't mean to hijack the thread, but watch those plastics in the Civic....unless they use different materials in the si... George |

Indeed. For torque, commuter and bike carrier, you're gonna love the forester.. Also, for crappy snow/ice/rain conditions, I've never EVER been in a more confident handling car than our forester.. Even my old trooper couldn't hang with it. In snow.. you will absolutely love it.

So how are those things geared? Does it have extra-short gearing so that your 8000rpm in each gear equates to about the same road speed as 6500rpm in the same gear in a normal car? Or does the high rev limit buy you a higher top speed (or bigger range of speeds) in each gear? -- Steve
