I have recently upgraded suspension kit in my 2001 Forester.
KYB Struts parts numbers are:
FRONT LEFT-334190
FRONT RIGHT- 334189
REAR LEFT-334192
REAR RIGHT-334191
KING Springs:
FRONT-KSFR-32
REAR-KSRR-33
All parts numbers correct and fitted where they suppose to be. Strut tops are standard.
That is always the case even on other car/truck if the strut are not longer than stock. You might be able to use stock height king spring and then use strut top spacer or 2.25" bottom strut spacer. That way you maintain drop but it might destroy the CV joint sooner since it might get overextended
Yeah, as far as I know there aren't any struts that have longer travel available for our cars. I would get King standard height springs and spacers so that you can maintain your stock suspension geometry. Maybe SG rear struts to allow a taller tire to make up some height.
No I don't believe so. The idea behind using SG rears is not that they have more travel, it's that the spring perch on the SF rear strut is lower down on the strut than the SG's and limits how big a tire you can put on because they will interfere. The SG's allow a bigger tire to be used.
--gain height BUT
--lose droop + lose much of the lift over time, some say within 30,000 miles.
These are expensive things, once you have it, why go back to spacers right now? It is not like 2" spacers is a brilliant solution of any kind. How is the rear geometry? Are the wheels properly aligned? If not, you can burn your tires in as little as several thousand miles.
Have you asked at Offroadsubarus.com? I have a thread there on the subject, it is a sticky.
after reading this i kinda agree with getting back to a stock geometry. would differnt tophat blocks help get you closer to stock lenth strut with a lift? Welcome to SUMO Parts - SUBARU
i saw some here?
I have an order in for the kyb excel struts(same part#'s as yours). And I was about to order springs when I saw your post. Now I'm not so sure. Are the kyb excels not tall enough? I was going to order Ironman springs instead of King but not sure if that would make a difference.
It looks like kyb excels are not tall enough or front springs are too long. Geometry is unsatisfactory as the front is a way higher than the back. Surprisingly I have recently seen similarly lifted Forester (King Springs as well) but it still doesn't look right to me.
The supplier mentioned to lower the front end down with no further details.
Seems the excel's might be a bit different/shorter that the previous GR-2's!!!! Please do update here if you hear anything useful from the supplier. Got my KYB excels today but haven't ordered raised springs yet/having second thoughts.
Ah, Thanks. I thought it was for the kyb/king built on the thread.
