Sti Mid-pipe and new Oval Tips

Purchased a 15 FXT for the wife to replace her 11 Honda CR-V.

Wife did not want me to mod it to be loud...so I did what I could.

I was originally going to put on the complete catback off a 2015 STi...but since the quad tips would require cutting the bumper to fit properly, but worse, the annoying resonance around 1500-2000rpm's (which is where the CVT likes to hang out)...I opted to just install the midpipe.

Aside from being much lighter than the "pancake" style crushed resonator on the FXT, the STI mipipe had a larger diameter midsection and the resonator looked much cleaner.

There was very little change in sound...a slight deeper tone, but very pleasant and it passed the wife test...

Here's the cool part...I had my old oval tips from my 2005 Legacy GT laying around...Just for fun (since I am partial to oval tips)...I wanted to see what they would look like on the car rather than the smallish round stock fxt tips. The LGT Oval tips were large enough that they fit over the stock FXT round tips...I just removed the bolt on the bottom and slid the LGT tips over them. I'm pretty happy with this look. Not only did they fill out the stock bumper cutout better but it also lengthened the tip by about an inch. The oval tips are now almost flush with the end of the bumper rather than being under the bumper.

I will see how this goes...I have since purchased a WRX SPT Quad tip (WRX version has no resonator)...but...have not had the testicular fortitude to install it since the quads "will" require me to cut the bumper for a clean look. Without the resonator, I'm pretty sure it will be raspier and louder than the SPT STI cbe...not ready for the wife to go ballistic...yet.

I'll post up pics of the tips when I get home. This was a Mild-at best modification to the exhaust...but I'm happier with the look over the smallish, round, stock FXT tips.

Sorry...since I just saved them after I replaced my stock LGT exhaust with Prodrives...not sure what the stock number is.

Looks pretty good though...

If you look inside the oval tip...you can see how much shorter the stock fxt round tip is...

I installed the tip for the 2005 LGT sedan #44371AG190 ($34.79 subarugenuine parts.com) on my single exhaust 2.5, it was special ordered they said only 6 left in USA fwiw. Looks good like Island Style said it fills out the cutout in the bumper better and sticks out further than the oem chrome tip did. Remove bottom bolt from old tip, slide new one over old tip and reinstall the bolt. Since the new tip could still wiggle a little I drilled out a small hole just forward of the existing mounting hole and ran a self tapping screw in to better secure the new tip to the old one. Nice easy little mod!

OLD TIP

NEW TIP

Good news! I can also confirm the LGT sedan tips, 44371ag190, fits. Bad news, I sheared off one of the bolts
