Repair Procedure for Subaru Recall Campaign Stop-Sale: WTA-62 Turbocharger Air Intake Duct
Subaru of America, Inc. (Subaru) is recalling certain 2015 and 2016 model year Subaru Forester
2.0XT and WRX vehicles to inspect and possibly replace the turbocharger air intake duct.
The turbocharger air intake duct may have been produced with an incorrect material that is
susceptible to cracking. Should the turbocharger air intake duct crack, the engine may develop a
rough idle, reduced power and possibly stall. Should the engine suddenly lose power or stall while
driving, there is an increased risk of a crash. This could happen without warning.
Information contained in any technical document found on the STIS web site should only be used as reference material for highly trained automotive technicians. Only automotive technicians have the training and the special tools/equipment to repair Subaru vehicles.
Sounds like one WRX owner actually had this part crack on him already.
Anyway, we'll have to wait and see the VIN range when they release more details to the US.
Looks like all DIT engines produced between April 10, 2015 and October 21, 2015 though
Well then. I bought my '16 in late October '15 so I'm pretty sure I'll be getting that letter soon. It hadn't been on the lot long so I've got to imagine I fall into the timeframe.
Product description
MY 15 Forester XT and MY15 and 16 WRX Vehicles
Identifying features
Target number: 1,941
What are the defects?
The air intake ducts may develop cracks.
What are the hazards?
The crack may lead rough engine idle, lower engine power and in a worst case scenario, engine stalling, which may posing a potential hazard to the driver and other road users.
mine is under the recall but I'm holding off till I know the parts are in stock. Apparently there's an open re flash needed for the starlink connected vehicle system on my car as well that can make it send a signal to me saying I have something wrong with my abs of all things even though there's nothing wrong (never had it happen but I'm getting both knocked out at the same time)
My wife decided to upgrade her 09 Forester to a '16 XT. After agreeing on a purchase price, she and her dealer learned that this XT is subject to the WTA-62 Stop-Sale and can't be sold. The dealer ordered the placement parts so they could sell the car, but now is being told that SOA can't ship the parts, meaning the car can't be purchased. No one at the dealership seems to know why the parts aren't being shipped or when they might be.
I've been talking to SOA and they can't tell me why the parts aren't shipping or when they might ship. They are looking into it. In the interim, the Stop-Sale Campaign seems to have been revised (WTA-62R).
Anyone have a clue as to what is going on here? Why SOA isn't shipping the replacement part, one that seems to be available and installed on current VINs? Or what revision was made?

I ran my vin through our system at work and have confirmed that I am in fact under the recall.
Checked MySubaru just now and the recall is there. Scheduled for 4/16 - hope it goes well. Maybe I can have them replace the clamp on the BPV with the Breeze clamps.
So my forester is good but my wrx is on the recall list. I no longer that the stock air intake on the car and running the grimmspeed intake. Does this mean if I don't take the car in for the recall they won't let me register the car (living in califorina) because I don't want to part back to stock to get the intake back on that I won't be using anyways lol. I'm getting tired of thes damn recalls
Recall is now showing on mine, will be contacting my Service Writer tomorrow to see when they will have parts. I guess this will delay the install of the Mishimoto Air box.
Whew... looks like those of us with cars built in 01/2015 really got lucky.. missed both the WQW-58 and also this recall! Fingers crossed it stays this way.
Pretty interesting since the letter I received yesterday (I've lost track of how many times they've notified me about this recall) said it was a 10 minute check to see if the intake is one of the affected ones, and 20 minutes to replace if needed.
I dropped my '16 off at 7:45 this morning to take care of both the turbo intake recall and the DCM Starlink reprogramming one and just got the call that it was ready to pick up. So for me, at least, a little less than that 3-4 hour window.
I just picked it up and asked whether mine was one of the intakes that required replacement - they said it was all good. Not sure how widespread it is, but I at least avoided it on mine (ordered end of July 2015 and delivered beginning of September).
Got it looked at yesterday. They said I was good; it didn't have the defective part. In reviewing the paperwork at home, it was notated that the defective part they're looking for was manufactured in April of 2015 and mine was manufactured in June of 2015.
Today I called two dealers in two different counties. Some salient points:
** I was quoted 6 hours to replace IF the intake were of the bad batch by one dealer.
** Both dealers said that they do NOT stock the revised intake and that it would be a special order that is made AFTER determination of my FXT's intake batch/lot/date.
** In other words, both dealers are only ordering on an AS-NEEDED basis. They are not stocking it as "standard parts" inventory.
** Both dealers said I would have to bring the car back a second time after they received the special order.
** Both dealers said I would be allowed to drive the car home if it were determined to have the defective intake.
QUESTION: Is anyone in the USA experiencing their dealer doing the replacement of their intake on the SAME DAY as the inspection of it?
Eulers:
Here in Florida, same deal, which irritates me a bunch. First my VIN should have been enough for Subaru to cross reference with the defective intake part list. No, I had to make an appointment, go in on my time and sit for an hour while the dealer took a look. Yep, one of the bad ones, but no, we don't have the part. Have to order it, and I will have to go back for the actual install. This is unacceptable procedure which uses my time and money to go twice for a replacement rather than once, or not at all.
Subaru is going cheap to save themselves money, looks like to me.
Just came back from having the recall taken care of. My Foz was the first one sold in the area (June 2015 build date; ordered the car the weekend the 2016s were in the system) and the intake was manufactured 5/15, so I was good as well.
Oh that gives me some hope. I'm taking mine in on Monday and it's also a June build. What are the last few digits of your VIN if you don't mind me asking. Mine are 4077xx.
Unfortunately mine needs to be replaced. They had to order the part. Hopefully it won't take too long to come in.
