Default Forester to get an STI offering in 2014?

According to this article, it is "likely" the USDM will get an STI Forester next year.

That would be amazing! But knowing the US market's views towards exciting to drive cars I doubt it will happen. The more blah and lazy the car is the better it will sell . Although Subaru does seem to be defying the odds with high sales despite the lack of a diesel or hybrid offering, so maybe this is a possibility however unlikely it seems. Unfortunately I think the only way I'll be able to own one is if Forza puts one in the game.

I could see this coming to US if the regular XT model gets dropped. Didn't they stop selling XTs in the UK?

Sadly, people complain about spending 30K on a XT, so adding more STI would jump the price to 35K easy. I know I would buy one, that is a real deal STI version, not some water downed TS version.

Keep dreaming....

SOA doesn't believe there is a market for a 6MT turbo Forester, let alone one with all the extras of the STi model.

To be honest, I'm surprised Subaru hasn't done this. I think of "STi" as SRT is to Chrysler Corp. It's their High Performance Division, and surprised they don't have STi options on most of their lineup.

WRX STi
Forester STi
Legacy STi

Just throw the same 6-Speed manual you already have produced for the current WRX STi, as well as either the already produced 265hp or 300hp engine. The Forester and current WRX already share pretty much the same chassis, I wouldn't see why it wouldn't be possible. I'd HIGHLY consider buying one if I was in the market for a new car.

And if they start using the STi transmission/engine combiniation in more vehicles, it reduces the cost of those components, and allows the STi version to not be so outrageously expensive. And if they stop making BS commercials showing the cars just going to the damn grocery store all the time, and start REALLY marketing their cars (the STi variants) as sporty, fun to drive versions (like in their Rally days), then I'm sure the demand would increase.

If it comes with an automatic and still has more than 8.5 inches of ground clearance I would sell both my kidneys for it.

I think all of that was done once they pulled out of WRC. To me it seemed like they were trying to get rid of the racer-boy image, anyway.

And then they will offer a sports car with a stripped out interior and no radio....

Oh wait, that is almost everyone but the US :(
