Apple carplay coming to Subaru?

I see that Subaru is listed...but no specific Subie models listed.
Crossing fingers I can somehow install in the 2016

CarPlay - Apple

3 months have passed. Any updates or news from Apple/Subaru?

As a temporary solution using the 'Hey Siri' function on my iphone 6
At least now I can compose messages while driving...

They've been promising since 2014 that its coming. Don't hold your breath.

Make sure to email SOA questioning CarPlay support so they'll know more customers are asking about it.

You can get CarPlay in 3rd party head units, but only via a direct connect cable to the phone. Was considering one, but with my Scosche dash mount I get nearly all those functions on the phone anyway.

I know for a fact that it is coming to Subaru models. The first model with it will be the new '17 Impreza set to debut at the NY auto show on the 23rd

2017 Forester is expected to get Siri Hands-Free, but not complete Car Play.
They are listed on the Android Auto list as well, but don't see them doing much on that front either

Welp, looks like the 7" infotainment system will be short-lived. The 2017 Impreza will be getting Carplay via a new 8" infotainment system.

Based on this paragraph in the release, it appears Carplay/Android Auto won’t be limited to the new 8” screen:

"The 2017 Subaru Impreza will be offered in four trim lines: 2.0i base, Premium, Sport and Limited. The 2.0i starts with an extensive roster of standard features that includes a 6.5-inch multimedia touchscreen, Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay™, power windows with auto up/down on both driver and passenger sides; 60/40-split fold-down rear seat; power door locks and side mirrors; multi-function display with fuel economy information; tilt and telescoping steering column; security system with engine immobilizer, carpeted floormats and more."

Interesting. So they're introducing a new base infotainment system as well and not just carrying forward the 6.1" system. I still imagine the chance of them releasing an update (paid or otherwise) for previous cars is zilch.

I know. I keep calling Subaru to ask them details. Yesterday I joked with the rep: “Who do I have to bribe to make sure my 2016 Forester can get the update?” She laughed, and she was understanding and accommodating, said she’d pass on the request to the engineers. Best thing at this point is for people who want Carplay/Android Auto in non-2017 units to keep calling and put the pressure on them. They won’t do it unless there is enough demand.

Confirmed that CarPlay/Android Auto support is not just limited to the new 8” screen. Here’s what it says in the Motortrend article (here: http://www.motortrend.com/news/2017-...look-review/):

"All Imprezas come standard with a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system, as well as Bluetooth, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay connectivity."

Oh, man. Carplay in my '16 would make me fall completely in love with my car. I hate Starlink and I hate constantly fiddling with my phone to stream things via Bluetooth.

But I imagine the chances of us getting an update are slim to none. We're locked into those loans, baby.
