2018 Forester, Black Edition

Subaru U.S. Media Center

Quote:
A new Forester 2.5i Black Edition package is an upgrade from the 2.5i Premium, with Lineartronic® CVT featuring paddle shifters previously available only on turbo models that control a 6-speed manual mode. The package also comes standard with X-Mode and Hill Descent Control and LED Steering Responsive Headlights. The Black Edition rides on 18-inch black alloy wheels; fog lights with black accent trim; black finish exterior badges and mirrors; and a front grille with blacked-out wing motif and chrome frame. The package is offered on 4 exterior colors: Crystal Black Silica, Dark Gray Metallic, Crystal White Pearl and Ice Silver Metallic. The exclusive black cloth upholstery seats with simulated leather bolsters are complimented by a silver metallic and black gloss finish center dash panel. The leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift handle are highlighted with silver stitching and the interior door handles have a chrome finish. All-Weather Package, rear cargo tray and Welcome Lighting all come standard with the Black Edition. The 2.5i Forester Black Edition is available exclusively on Premium trim as a $1,150 option package.
Pretty sweet set of upgrades, headlights etc, for the Premium trim.

So, it's a blacked out 2.5i with an XT interior? Interesting. Saves some time with the plastidip, I guess.

In other words, nothing has changed from the 2017 lineup except for that Black Pearl edition? No Apple Car Play??? Hey Subaru, how about some upgrades/packages for the 2018 lineup that would be actually useful?

Paddle shifters are nice. But apple CarPlay is really what I wanted.
Now I have to decide if I'm going to wait another year

They were never going to do a dash retrofit, and qualify all new infotainment electronics for 1 singular model year before the global platform release. That was never expected.

Would Apple Car Play have necessitated a dashboard/infotainment system revamp? I expected Apple Car Play to be realized in the 2018 models based on posts made on this forum by people who said they had "definite proof of Apple Car Play coming to the 2018 Forester."

Would it be worthwhile to hold out a bit longer, or is the pricing announcement mentioned in this thread the definitive answer to the question of what the 2018 Forester will entail?

So, the new model comes out in 19' then and this is just a re-fresh?

Paddle shifters, finally! But as others have said, that's only half of what I am waiting for. I won't upgrade my current Forester until the new ones have Car Play. The Star-link system in my wife's 2016 Impreza is infuriating! The CD/Tape deck combo in my '03 with a $20 Bluetooth adapter from amazon is streets ahead of that stupid thing. Literally, I have never been so frustrated with a user interface, it is so slow and buggy it has no place in a modern car, Subbies deserve better! The thing gives me road rage more than other drivers...

I think the new Forester comes out in 2020; that's what me dealer said when I picked up my 2017 last August.

Carplay 8" unit is larger, from a different manufacturer, and has different integration. Not simple. Only a few people pipe dreamed about it.
