NO NO NO!!! It doesn't look like the concept... It looks like a Ford Fusion mated with an Impreza, and the offspring came out with a nasty appendage on its back!

You guys are funny. It's only a running prototype, what it looks like doesn't mean much at all.

How could this be a 2015 model if they already have what looks like a production model ready. It looks almost imminent for a launch if they're already that far along. Probably very early 2014.

From all the sour magazine articles, forums and such, if Subaru isn't pressured to "change" something before production, there will be a lot of sour reviews when it comes out. I'm sure it'll look okay, but they seriously can't consider releasing an amazing, aggressive concept, then come out with a 50% diluted version..........and not have backlash.

Frankly it surprises me that anyone would be surprised that it is going to look like the current Impreza????

Why not? Is there a rule? What else but camo would bring photographers running, magazine, e-zine coverage and generate plenty of forum speculation which builds new interest. And they didn't forget to add a taped over badge to fuel the fires even more.

The ease of having basically one engine design (boxer) is that it fits virtually all their model lineup from Impreza to Tribeca with slightly different engine mounting hardware. That makes it easy to develop test mules (see my previous comment about diesels testing in Canada here Subaru WRX Concept a New York Show Stopper)

Notice the similarities from an earlier concept that got rave reviews, other than the newer concepts flatter vs bumped up hood-scoop of the current WRX/STI the glass belt line is very similar to the 2012 Impreza concept seen a few years ago in this picture http://media.caranddriver.com/images...s-1280x782.jpg refine it with new sportier/aggressive bumper/grill panels, modern LED lighting and add WRB colors to it and voila your new WRX/STI. Things like ride height and lighting that would meet various international standards would have to be refined for production versions. Actually they could have been revising that Impreza concept as the next WRX/Impreza since it debuted as an Impreza concept. Or they could have been lazy and just redevloped that as strictly a newer concept for the show circuit. Couldn't they?

When you look at the current Impreza coupe
2013 Subaru Impreza Images. Photo: 2013-Subaru-Impreza-Sedan-Image-023-1024.jpg a little more camo overlay on the glass and lighting on a test mule could fool you into thinking it is the latest next big thing. Couldn't it?

I could be wrong, no doubt about it. But all is still open to speculation at this point

There's too much different from the mule to be just a mule again. Especially the rear end and the front bumper. I'm convinced that Subaru tamed the production model again. Manufacturers like to camo their cars when there are significant changes to the body that represent the production model. If this really is just a mule again, they've spent too much money on those body panels. Add the spoiler and now I'm convinced they're testing aerodynamic forces on the actual production (or very similar) body.

OK, so I went and asked the expert (my friend Brenda the spy photographer), and this is what she told me about Subaru's usual tactics:

Quote:
Sometimes they camouflage mules so you won't see just what modifications they had to make to fit everything in or move things around. In Subaru's case - they are always very good with camouflage and tend to use the the current bodies in testing as long as they can. Last year I even shot some Outback and Impreza hybrids - all using current bodies. I don't think I sold a single spy photo - no one believed what it was!

Just like the diesels testing in Canada, you wouldn't know it unless you were standing beside one hearing the clatter while it idles or drove off by the smell.
