For what it's worth, it appears they will have a 2.5i GLS trim paired with the body styling of the XT in Asia ! Wouldn't it be nice to have it here too ?

I don't mind either way. I'm getting the turbocharged variant anyways. I just want the hood scoop back though.

i was just thinking. on the eyesight system. what if it goes bad or the lenses get dirty and it randomly detects an inexistent stationary object right in front of you as you cruise the freeway at 70mph and catches you off guard slamming the brakes?? talk about causing an accident rather than avoiding one.

That's what I was thinking as well. Wintertime here can see some seriously heavy lake effect snow. Ya, I clean off the car prior to leaving, but I'm sure the lenses would get covered up eventually. Maybe there's a button to turn it off?

EyeSight was created with the intent on driver safety. Obviously it turns itself off when it cannot properly detect objects ahead. That includes during inclement weather like thick fog and snowstorms. Subaruoutback.org has a thread with Eyesight related questions and experiences. For example, if the sun is shining directly in the direction of view of the cameras, the EyeSight system will turn off as well.

So if it shuts off when it's raining, and when the sun is shining right on it, and when it's foggy, and when it's snowy, and probably isn't on much at night...realistically, how useful is it? Remember, we're stuck with it if we want pushbutton start and HID headlights...

Really, how could you tell it's the non turbo. Text not English.

You can tell there is no turbo by the engine bay photos.
A Burnished Bronze model is shown, just looks like tan.

Right didn't check the engine pics. Pretty weird no such luck in Japan and only 2.0 models for both turbo and non turbo

Yes, as "bashfulbernie" has already commented before me, you can tell this is a non-turbo trim by looking at the pics of the engine bay. Further more, the XT decal is missing from the rear. It is also missing the dual exhaust and finally the category under which the pics appear in Simplified Chinese translates to the english equivalent of "2.5i Auto GLS" which indicates that the power plant of choice is indeed the naturally aspirated 2.5. (BTW you use a browser like Chrome and leverage the native translation capability of G/Chrome to see for yourself. Its pretty nifty)

Curiously as you say, they decided not to offer it in Japan but instead in China ! It also appears that the Chinese market will get "shark-fin" style radio antennas too unlike what we have seen in the pics of the Japanese models and those destined for North America.

It's obvious you don't have a complete understanding as to how it works. A little reading on the Subaru site (subaru.com) or even subaruoutback.org may help with this. I had it on my Outback for almost a year now and think it is a great system. I plan on ordering it on the new Forester as well but would rather pass on the push button start if it was possible. Not that I don't think push button start is great but I am seeing some problems with the one new OB model that is using it and it seems like a difficut thing to troubleshoot so far. Another thing is that with push button start if you get the factory remote start is is a very basic low range remote start compared with the non-push button start model. This was all based on the current OB and may change by the time the Forester gets here. Maybe some of those parts of the world that are getting it before us could better comment on this.
