Adding Navigation to STARLINK after purchase?

Hi,

I am considering purchasing a 2016 XT, and am wondering if buy the car without the navigation package, and then change my mind aftewards is it possible to 'upgrade' the STARLINK system to enable navigation, or would I be forced to go to a 3rd party solution?

For vehicles that do not have the navigation package, what does STARLINK display for the map section?

Thanks,

I don't know, but you might have to actually change out the head unit to get nav after the fact. I doubt you can add nav ... probably should go ahead and get it when you order. Pretty sure mine was part of the EyeSight package, and I really like EyeSight. Plus, the radio/stereo that's part of that package is a lot better than the base one. I understand the '16s have a better base radio than the '15s had, but I doubt it's as good as the one with the H/K speakers and amp that's part of the nav/EyeSight package.

Make sure you check it out and get a definitive answer before you do what you suggested. Of course, you could always add a portable Garmin (or other brand) and not have to worry about expensive map updates.

Photos from an Impreza show that the 7 inch headunit is slightly different for non-navigation models.

Note the "Map" button becomes a "Phone" button if you do not have navigation.

Hey,

You Cant add the Navi you would be changing the car package totally and they don't have anything to accommodate you after the buy. Best to get the Navi option the button layout is different if you don't go with the navi.

you could buy a Nav HU and antenna in the parts dept, but you'll be looking at $3k or so.

If you just want Nav on the HU screen, buy a secondhand phone that is compatible, load Drivelink and Sygic (or other nav software) and use Mirrorlink.

Apparently there is a solution provided by an Australian company.

I am also interested in having navi on radio unit. I already requested more info, but no answer yet...

Better still get a Garmin. They do it better than anyone else and they provide free Lifetime map updates for most of the units.

If you are ordering and really like the Subaru unit I would just get it. However, I have a 2015 without Nav and am happy with my Garmin mounted on a dash disc, above the left driver side a/c outlet. Nice to be able to take the unit along when traveling. I personally don't like to use the smart phone for navigation except in a pinch. Screen too small and I would need a mount.

Would have liked the 2016 backup screen camera. Mine is still too small but left over price for a 15 was too good.
