I don't think so for Subaru. I know BMW can do that.
As far as I can tell the dealer gets a transit number when the vehicle arrives at the port (off the boat). My sales guy let me know when that happened and they pretty know from that point it's a few weeks until it shows up.

2014 Subaru Forester

I bought the 2.5i Premium / EFF
Venetian Red Pearl with
Option Package 02
(All Weather, Heated Front Seats, Heated Side Mirrors, Windshield wiper de-icer)
Mirror Package #2
(mirror w/compass & Homelink, and approach light) and these extras
Cargo Tray
Luggage Compartment Cover
Rear Bumper Cover
Fog lights

MSRP including delivery was 27,563
I paid 26,363

The closest they could find what I wanted was at a dealer 100 miles away so I waited a day for delivery. I'm still waiting for the fog lights to be installed. Biggest negatives so far is the floor mats were recalled. They are red mottled so as to match the exterior color. Very nice looking, but after registering with Subaru I got an email explaining why they were recalled. Seems the adhesive used during manufacturing was defective and under intense heat conditions they may curl up on the edges. They thought that was a hazard. They'll let me know when replacement mats are available. Out of an excess of caution the dealer took them out before delivery so I had to go buy a cheap set to protect the carpeting.

This is my first new car since a 2000 Solara so after driving 300 miles around town and to the beach so far the biggest pluses are auto dimming side view mirrors and the AM/FM Stereo HD Radio w/CD player system. The sound is fantastic through my Flash Drive plugged into the USB port. I also love the moon/sun roof, the CVT and how it drives. A real solid feel on the road.

larryd, who did you buy through?

so they recalled the mats and removed them prior to delivery but didn't provide you with even a cheap generic replacement until a fix is in place? You had to buy your own? To me that's kind of crappy for a brand new car, especially in the NW where it rains a lot.

I bought at the local Subaru dealer, Bud Clary. I think the recall on the floor mats must have come out the afternoon I went to pick up the car because the salesman didn't know why they were being recalled. The final prep dept. had left them in, that's how I know what they look like, but the salesman took them back out before I drove off. I went straight to an auto store and bought a $25 set before I even drove home as I wasn't about to take a chance on getting the factory carpeting muddy. I suppose if I had made a big deal out of it that they would have tried to find me something to replace the mats. But as I say, they didn't know what the problem was with the mats just that they had been recalled with no date for replacement mats to be made available. They did apologize

That seems like a great deal. I ordered the same car for $26,700 before adding any options. And I'm jealous that you got to pick yours right up -- still no XT Premiums in NE.

Trust me I feel very fortunate! According to the dealer the XTs are getting snatched up like crazy.

Good luck in your search.

Little over 26 for a xt seems like a crazy good deal considering the NA premiums only go for 2k less.

The dealer I purchased from told me a few local dealers are in trouble with the franchise (Subaru of NE I assume), so they are doing pretty desperate things I guess to boost sales.

I think there is alot of incentive (more so than profit on a single vehicle) to sell in bulk/move cars. I know they are still making money at the place I bought too.

No one should be purchasing without getting multiple quotes via email as far as I'm concerned. I know now to always spend some time sending a few emails for quotes just to be sure.

Hi Paul,

thanks for the advice! I am about the pull the trigger on a 2014 XT premium. and received much more competitive offers than I thought I would. With the remote start it looks like I'll get it for about $500 less than truecar was offering WITHOUT the remote start. So yeah, emailing several local dealers was quick and painless and will likely save me several hundreds of dollars.

I'm now contacting the original dealership that turned me on to subaru's and asking them to get back to me. If they'll match or even come reasonably close I'll pull the trigger with them. If not, it's not exactly a far drive to one of the others. I'll post prices once I sign the paperwork to make sure there's nothing shifty going on.

thanks!

-Jon

ps: now time to start shopping for pricing on the extended warranty.

Glad I could help!
I picked mine up tonight. No issues with the paperwork and got 1.9% from my credit union. The dealership even drove over in it to pick me up. So it's got 50 miles on it now.

ordered my premium XT tonight, 26,575 w/ the rear bumper cover and remote start. Pretty pleased with the deal all things considered.

my trade in values were a little eh, trading in a 08 civic sedan and a 04 ex-L v6 honda accord. I could sell the accord for a couple grand more private sale, but not sure if I want to have the liability...

did anyone do the extended warranty? I'm debating on the 7 year 100k factory one, just wondering what kind of price I should target....
